Independent candidate in the Roscommon/South Leitrim bye-election, Emmett Corcoran has stressed the need to retain services at Dromod Railway Station.

“I have offices in Dromod myself for my technology business. I regularly use the rail service when travelling to Dublin during the week, it’s far more convenient than driving. Clients too will occasionally use the service if they are ever visiting my offices,” he said.

“This is a brilliant service for many people living in the Dromod area who work in Longford, Sligo, Mullingar and even Dublin as well as those doing business and creating jobs in the town.

“The bus service has already been cut for Dromod and Rooskey. We are met yet again with an example of how rural Ireland (under government directive) is being closed down village by village, town by town, by removing our services and reducing our infrastructure.

We cannot allow this injustice to occur. We must now take out and organise. Our rural communities have been hit for the last time. We simply cannot take any more cuts to essential rural services such as this.

“Local Councillors can rest assured that they have my full support and we will fight tooth and nail to retain the services. The economic and social development of our towns and villages depends on it.”
