Independent Councillor, Enda Stenson has called on the Council “to make it policy that whatever work is carried out on Rinn Lake to complete this excellent Rowing Facility, that it in no way impacts on the farming community.”

Cllr Stenson said that all efforts needed to be made to ensure that farmers didn’t lose out because flooding left land unworkable or left them ineligible for agricultural support payments.

The Director of Service, Planning, Community and Economic Development explained that Leitrim County Council is currently monitoring the operation of the (Rinn Rowing) facility without any adjustment to water levels.

“Based on this monitoring (the Council) will identify what works, if any, are necessary for the more efficient operation of the facility going forward in future years and confirm that no works will be carried out until prior consultations are held with those who may be affected,” concluded the Director.
