News from the Leitrim Association in London
Luton Association Dinner & Dance
Congrats to the Luton Leitrim Assoc on a wonderful dinner & dance held recently. Almost 250 people were here, including Fr Tom Colreavy who travelled over from Dublin. Fr Tom, from Gortletteragh, has been a regular visitor to Luton where he ministered for a number of years before returning to Dublin. A number of patrons from London also attended.
The Marathon Lady
Lyndsey Gallagher completed the London marathon in 5 hrs and 8 minutes-well done. Lyndsey was running to raise funds for the Lighthouse charity, which looks after injured construction workers. Lyndsey is part of the Gallagher Construction Group in Kent and no doubt her dad Pat threw a few bob in the kitty. Pat and family are great Leitrim supporters, and very generous to worthwhile charities.
Leitrim v London Sunday 3rd June at Ruislip
This Connaught senior championship clash will be a major outing for both counties. Leitrim remain the only county beaten by London in the first round of the championship. Last year London had Mayo on the rack for the entire game, with Mayo equalising with a minute to go. Mayo eventually won in extra time. London then beat Fermanagh in the qualifiers. London has had a reasonable league and are up for this June encounter. They have a few new players, but unfortunately will be without powerful midfielder Paul Geraghty due to suspension. It is interesting to note whom Leitrim people in London support. Personally I am with Leitrim, but I’m probably in the minority-especially in the Tara Club!, but I can live with that. Leitrim will need to be on their game. Mohill and former Leitrim player Paul McDermott has played almost every league game for London this year, it will be mixed emotions for him, especially if he is on the team.
On a social note it is always a great day in Ruislip when Leitrm come to town. London GAA will have Ruislip in tiptop condition and lots of extra facilities laid on. A big crowd of supporters is expected with the team. The place to be after the game is the Adam & Eve pub on the Uxbridge Road in Hayes. Owner Fergus O’Brien and family will be excellent hosts over the entire week-end, and those patrons travelling over will be able to not only celebrate a win, but also the Queens Jubilee!
The Adam & Eve is 10 minutes in a cab from Ruislip, the full address is 830 Uxbridge, Hayes UB4 0RR Tel No: 0208 5755546.
All Irelands: When was an all Ireland played at Twickenham? Well not yet but very soon when Leinster take on Ulster in the Heineken Cup Final. And of course congrats to Leitrim Ladies who have reached Division 3 final.
As I write this we are being drenched with continuous rain. Mother nature is responding to the hosepipe ban that came in on the 5th April, it has rained every day since.
At last weeks meeting a vote of sympathy was passed on the death of John P Reilly, from Aughavas, uncle of association member Sean Faughnan.
Monday July 9th is the date for these years AGM to be held in the Crown at 8.00pm. New members will be most welcome.
Not quite there yet, but the good news is that Eileen Poh has taken on the role of co-ordinator and will have it ticking over in the next week or so. In the meantime you can log on at “www.leitrimassociation.org.uk” .Will let you know when the site is fully operational.
It’s suddenly stopped raining-sun shining- must try and mow the garden this evening, speak soon.
