Carrick Town

U-12: We were narrowly defeated 1-0 v Strandhill on Saturday morning. Missing a number of first team regulars the lads tried their best but couldn’t find an equaliser. Best for the home team were Shane Crowe and Eoghan Farrell. We still top the group and progress to the 1/4 stages.

U-13: On Saturday next, 16 March, we are away to St. Johns (Sligo) at 2pm. Well done to Niall Morohan, Mark Diffley and Jack Mathews, members of the Sligo Leitrim squad who had a fine 1-0 win over the Inishowen on Saturday last. The victory puts them in to the quarter-finals of National Inter League competition, the first time a Sligo Leitrim team has progressed this far in 10 years.

U-15: We have no league fixture this weekend as we await the result of the fixture, St. John’s v Arrow Harps.

Seniors: Carrick Town Senior team travelled to play Strand Celtic Reserves at a very windy Strandhill on Sunday morning last. Playing against the strong wind in the first half we struggled with the difficult conditions for the first 20 minutes. After this we started to play some good football and create a few chances, converting one ten minutes before halftime to leave the score 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, Carrick doubled their lead after 60 minutes. They were totally dominant now and added another four goals to leave the final score 6-0. It was a very good all round squad performance with some super passing football played. This leaves Carrick in second in the league with 33 points from 15 games and with 7 games remaining. Promotion to the Super league is in their own hands. Scorers were Brian O’Donnell, Niall Comerton, Ray Mulvey 3 and Mick Corrigan. We are away to Gurteen Celtic on Sunday, March 24, at 11am.
