Manor Rangers return to the Sligo Leitrim Super League on Sunday was marked with a winning season opener when new manager Alan Costello’s side held out for a 2 – 1 win over Yeats United at the Sligo IT Astro pitch.
Missing many chances Manor dominated the game in the first half going 2 – 0 at the 45 minute mark.
Yeats pulled a goal back three minutes after the restart and also created chances for an equaliser afterwards but a slightly nervy Manor managed to hold out to secure all three points at the finish.
A Garry Fowley 11th minute shot from 20 yards caught Yeats ‘keeper Stephen McCormack off his line and just before the break Killian Kerrigan made it 2 – 0 for the North Leitrim men with a well-hit effort from the edge of the box.
Sean Pender finished a 48th minute cross to the Manor net for what proved to be the Sligo men’s only score of the afternoon.
