Arrow Harps claimed the top prize when they won the inaugural FAI Manor Astro Ladies League last Friday.
Arrow Harps from Riverstown took on Manor side Jammy Dodgers before a large crowd under floodlights. Arrow Harps started well and their pressure paid off when they took the lead when Orla Devaney scored a superb volley from ball coming over her shoulder.
The Dodgers drew level at 1-1 when Naoimi McMorrow hit a long range effort that flew through a crowd of bodies into the net. All level at the break, it was Harps who gained the upper hand as Simone Kelly & Devaney quickly netted.
Ailbhe Clancy had a couple of chances but Devaney hit two more to make it 5-1 as Harps were to strong for the young Manor side who did well to get so far.
The 3rd/4th place playoff saw Manor’s Chocolate Chicks facing Vicious and Delicious, both having suffered defeats in the semi-finals. Both teams had early chances but Amber Lynch opened the scoring for Vicious as she sidestepped two defenders to score.
Lynch added her second to make it 2-0 but the Chicks made it 2-1 with McEnroy finding the net at the second time of asking to bring the game to life. But Vicious set Lynch free who was never going to miss to add her hat trick. It finished 3-1 to Vicious who were impressive throughout the league to win the bronze medals.
The first game was the final between Merville United and Costcutters for Europa League title. Costcutters had a narrow win in the semi-finals to beat rivals Supervalu by the one goal in 3-2 victory while Meville finished the group stages strongly and got bye to final as their higher placed finish as Merville emerged winners 3-1 with goals from Divers, T Meades and Cronin.
Orla Devaney finished as the Golden Boot winner on 18 goals ahead of Amber Lynch of 17 and Ailbhe Clancy on 16. The cup was presented by Leitrim County Council Chairman Sean McDermott as the league is one of many programmes rolled out by the Leitrim Community Soccer Programme through the FAI Leitrim County Council partnership.
Over 80 players registered for the League and Manor Astro Committee must be commended for the fine facility they had in place, thanks to Rhona McSharry and Ciaran Rock for all their hard work assisting in organising the league.
