Liam wins Ballinamore Festival 10K as Laura provides local winner

The North Leitrim AC runner held off the strong challenge from Conor McCaughey of Enniskillen Road Club to win the even by four seconds in a new Course Record of 33.10. Third place went to last year’s winner Clive Clancy of Carrick AC 67 seconds further back. The winner of the Womens’ 10K was MichellevLannon of Boyle in 42.26.

Longford produced the winner of the 5K held in conjunction with Niall Nerney finishing in 19.27 well ahead of loca lrunner Dan Hillman with another local Gordon Hughes third. The Womens’ 5K was won impressively by Laura O Dowd in 21.58 with Aine Heslin second in 23.50 and Yvonne McAllister third in 24.22.

The event was run off in near perfect weather conditions and attracted close to a hundred and forty runners from a number of counties as well as a number of younger runners who took part in the Under Age Festival Races in St Felim’s before the start of the big race.

Ballinamore Athletic Club are grateful to Waterways Ireland who supported the event as well as all who donated prizes, the Festival Committee, the Gardai, stewards and officials and all who helped to make the event a success.
