Sligo Kayak Club welcome beginners new to kayaking and will be running several training courses over the summer which will run on Tuesday evenings for two hours over six weeks with the level 2 skills assessment on the sixth week.

The cost of this course will be €80, payable on the first night, this includes gear rental (paddlers will need their own wetsuits or suitable clothing and footwear), Instruction and the Level 2 skills assessment with the Irish Canoe Union certification on passing the course.

This is a basic skills award and will provide the participants with the fundamental skills and techniques required for kayaking and water safety.

Once the course has been completed then paddlers can become full members of the club and will be welcome on all club peer paddles and trips that suits their paddling capabilities. Once you’re a member we will keep your progression going with training on moving water and kayaking in the surf as well as some touring paddling.

For paddlers who are experienced but have not yet achieved the Level 2 skills award we will arrange for you to have an assessment done on joining the club. The first training course will start at 6pm on Tuesday, April 9. Please contact Eddie Loftus (SKC Training Officer ) (086) 1922424 to sign up for one the courses.
