Three Leitrim underage teams will be making their own bids for glory this week as the County U-16 Boys and Girls team and the U-21 Hurling team contest major games this weekend.

The County U-21 hurlers defeated Sligo last Wednesday, 2-6 to 1-7, to reach the Connacht Under 21 B Hurling Semi-Final, a game that takes place tonight in Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada when they take on a strong Mayo side, 7.30 throw-in.

Zemuku Moradi will lead the line for Leitrim as the Thomas Davis clubman scored 2-3 of Leitrim’s tally against Sligo but Mayo traditionally dominate this grade.

Up the road in Longford, Leitrim U-16s will be anxious to put a recent defeat at the hands of Sligo behind them when they face the Yeats men in the Fr Manning Shield Final in Pearse Park, Longford at 6.00.

The George O’Toole Shield will go to the winners but Leitrim will be anxious to reverse the defeat they suffered at the hands of Sligo in the last game proper.

Leitrim U-16 Ladies also go in search of glory on Saturday in Clontibret, Co Monaghan when they take on Ulster side Down in the All-Ireland C Semi-Final at 2 pm.

Under a revision of the competitions this year, only the winners of the A and B Finals contested the All-Ireland series with the C Final being contested by the best placed team who did not make the B Final.

Leitrim, who drew one of their games earlier in the Connacht U-16 campaign, will be looking to lift themselves after a disappointing campaign, particularly for a team that won the All-Ireland B Shield two years ago.
