Conor Hession brought home a World Championship gold medal to Carrigallen last night (Tuesday) after he arrived home victorious from the WDFPF World Powerlifting Championships in Sicily.
The 17-year-old powerlifter took part in the T2 (Teenager) under 125kg Full Power category, which entails all three lifts, and equalled the national record of a combined total of 500 kg over the full-power squats, bench press and dead-lift categories.
Conor also set a new national record in the squat event with an amazing lift of 190 kg which translates to a mind-boggling 29 stone 12.87 pounds! That also came after lifts of 170 and 182.5 kg.
In the Bench, Conor lifted 82.5 kg while in the deadlift, he successfully lifted 227.5 kg after lifts of 205 and 217.5 kg.
