Drumshanbo’s Eamon McGowan has been named the second recipient of the Hall of Fame award at the Leitrim Sports Partnership Sports Awards after the nominations for this year’s event, which will take place on Saturday, December 3, in Lough Rynn Castle Hotel in Mohill.

The ever popular Eamon follows on from Frances Cryan as the winner of the Hall of Fame award for Exceptional Service to Sport & Recreation after a lifetime’s involvement with the GAA in Drumshanbo and Leitrim, serving as a player, manager and official, hurling and football, with Allen Gaels while also serving as a manager and selector with various County teams, including a stint as the Leitrim Ladies Senior team manager.

Eamon is also heavily involved in badminton and cycling and will be an extremely popular winner of the award.

For the past number of weeks the people of Leitrim have been submitting nominations for the Leitrim Sports Star Awards in 10 different categories. In total 96 nominations were received, our guest panel of judges had the mammoth task of short listing the nominations to 27.

In most categories, three have been shortlisted and the winner in each category but the standard was so high that in some categories, it was only possible to shortlist down to four. And the winner of the overall Leitrim Sports Person of the Year Award has been chosen from one of the above shortlisted nominees and announced on the night.

A special night of celebration is planned by Leitrim Sports Partnership with a delectable 4 course meal being served, followed by the awards and brilliant live entertainment by Gobsmacked in the beautiful setting of the Lough Rynn Castle Hotel. MC for the evening will be Shannonside radio’s very own sports reporter John Lynch.

Should anyone wish to come along to support the nominees and enjoy what promises to be an excellent night of celebration you can purchase a ticket for €35 from the Leitrim Sports Partnership, Aras an Chontae, Carrick-on-Shannon, Leitrim.

Some people have already booked tickets for their Christmas party at the Sports Awards and other people are very welcome to join in. Hurry though, given the great price, tickets are selling fast!
