Manor Rangers got the New Year off to the best possible start on Sunday at the Bee Park when they handed out a 5-0 drubbing in the FAI Junior Cup to Roscommon and District League side Ballymoe FC from Galway.

Manor have emerged from the Sligo/Leitrim/Roscommon section of the Junior Cup competition and will now meet last year's Connacht Junior Cup winners Athenry FC in their next FAI Junior Cup game on Sunday, January 30.

However it looked for a long time in Sunday's game that Manor might blow their chance as they chalked up a bagful of missed chances in the first half as Ballymoe withstood continuous bombardment.

It took Manor until the 44th minute to eventually break down Ballymoe's resistance when Colin Ryan shot a screamer of a goal from 25 yards.
