Leitrim Racings’ Joe Mulleady was out again over the weekend after a week long sabbatical from the road racing calender, partly to get over the defeat in Enniskillens Lakeland GP and to get some well earned rest from the training intensity required to compete in the world of cycle road racing.

The draw of points required to upgrade catergoies, again brought him into the neighbouring province of Ulster and participation in the Hugo Loughran GP hosted by Island Wheelers of Coalisland, Dungannon. Coming off the back of a good weeks training confidence was high, and even the poor weather conditions didn’t dampen spirits. The strong wind ensured the 80 strong group were still together after five laps of the 10km circuit, and with the last tight uphill turn and narrow roads, Joe was boxed in and couldn’t make a break for the line a complaint many of the participants shared. Finishing within the tightly packed chasing group, happy just to have finished the race in such bad conditions and chalk it down as a very good training session, Joe finished outside the top 10.
