Irish Rugby star Tommy Bowe is expected in Carrick-on-Shannon next Wednesday, May 2, to meet 12 of his fellow Monaghan men who are undertaking a charity kayak of the Shannon Erne Waterway from Killaloe to Monaghan.

The Tommy Bowe Challenge is to raise funds for Glaslough Harriers AC in Monaghan and the 12 rowers will use double sea kayaks to cover the 300 Km distance over six days.

Organisers have pencilled in Tommy Bowe to meet with the kayaking team in Carrick, along with family members and friends and they have invited members of the Carrick-on-Shannon Rowing, Rugby & Athletic Club to meet with Tommy on the night in a venue yet to be announced.

The challenge will then move on to Ballinamore on the following day before finishing around the Clones area the next day. See next week’s Leitrim Observer for more details.
