President’s Prizes: Frank Martin was able to produce a memorable 18 holes on Paddy Maguire’s President’s Day last Saturday. Frank returned to his tried and tested swing and recorded a superb 40 points. Unfortunately for Frank, Noel Healy, by his own admission had more than his share of rubs of the green: he chipped in for a two on the sixth hole, he bunkered his second shot on the 11th hole but holed the bunker shot and to cap it all holed a 20 foot putt for par on the final hole for 41 points and the President’s prize. Having been a member since 1974, he had achieved the one prize he had not won. President Paddy welcomed everyone to his second President’s day. Two members of the club who had attended today had played an integral part in Blacklion Golf Club: Bob Thompson, the elder statesman whose guidance over many years had seen the club prosper and Teddy Henderson who, although in poor health, had been able to spend a few hours with his friends in Blacklion. The seniors’ team were in the final of the O’Hare cup ably led by their captain who had shown outstanding judgement and leadership. (NB Team captain is Paddy Maguire).

Men’s Senior Society: The weather was forecast for heavy rain and boy were they spot on. We had an excellent turnout for our Captain’s Tommy Aherne Day. Despite the deluge some great scores were returned. Having previously won the Club Captain’s prize, Liam Wrynne completed the double with a great card of 45 pts. Runner-up was Sylvester Kevelehan just getting the better of his Mohill mate Joe Keville. The nines were won by John Burke and Brendan Lynch with John also winning nearest the pin. Finally a sincere thanks to our Captain Tommy who made sure that no stone was left uncovered. Congrats on the beautiful selection of prizes and the wonderful array of food. Well done Tommy. Future dates Farnam Estate Monday August 26. Hampers September 5.
