Leitrim ladies manager Pat Costello hit out at the timing of last Sunday’s Tesco Homegrown NFL Division 3 semi-final which he claimed was moved to 4pm from 2pm to cater for a Sligo player who would have been unavailable to play at the earlier time due to her involvement in a soccer match.
Emma Hansberry, a key player for Sligo and an Irish soccer international was introduced to the action for the second half and crucially scored two penalties.
“The disappointing thing for us is that you train so hard, you get ready for the game.
“This game was switched for 4pm, we had no say in that whatsoever. It was to accommodate the girl that came on and scored the two penalties.
“We had no say in it, we went with the game and the 4pm switch gave her the chance to come back and she was there in the second half when she was needed for the two penalties. It’s disappointing when you are trying to beat that system as well as play the 15 on the field.”
