James McKenna

It is with much regret and sadness that we record the death of James McKenna, Cartron, Lough Allen on Tuesday, March 26th. James, one of the old stock with whom decency, neighbourliness and hard work were important. He was ninety-two years old yet one could say he worked all his life, for up to the end he liked to keep busy. Passing by, one was likely to see him tidying a hedge, in the garden or painting the fence. For over forty years, James worked in Arigna Coalmines and he combined that with farming so James was a good provider with his late wife Eileen for their two sons, Gabriel and Thomas, both of whom made a great contribution to Drumkeerin GAA and were followed with proud and keen interest by James, their father.

So the community has lost a good neighbour and a gentleman. Gabriel and Thomas and his sister Mary Keaveney, Arigna have lost a dear devoted father and brother. To them we offer our sympathy and also our sympathy to his granddaughter Michelle, daughters-in-law Betty and Connie, nephews, nieces, other relatives and neighbours.

The audience throughly enjoyed the Acorn Players’s production of their hilarious comedy, “The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley” in Drumkeerin Community Centre on Sunday March 24th. Rehearsals on Drumkeerin Drama Group’s 2013 production are now into the “final touches” stage. This year the play is Bernard Farrell’s great comedy, “Say Cheese” which will be staged in the Community Centre, Drumkeerin on the weekend of April 19th.
