Nellie McGowan (O’Beirne)

The unexpected death of Nellie McGowan, Tavlaughmore, Mohill at Sligo General Hospital on May 15th 2013 has caused widespread regret in the whole community. She was the dearly loved wife of John, a wonderful wife, mother, granny, sister and true friend who was highly respected by all who had the honour of knowing her. Her kind, gentle, unassuming ways together with her great faith was an inspiration to us all. She died as she lived with dignity. Her removal to St. Patrick’s Church and her concelebrated Mass on Saturday at which her brother-in-law Fr. Michael McGowan was one of the celebrants was a celebration of Nellie’s life and the beautiful music added to the solemnity of this very sad occasion. The attendance came from all sections of the community who came to pay their final respects. Our sympathies are with her dear husband John, sons, daughters, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, sister, brothers and their extended families at this sad time. “She is gone no further from us than to God”. “Go raibh leaba aici imeasc na naomh. Ar dheis de go raibh ah-anam dillis”.

Kathleen Doyle

It was with geniune regret and deep sorrow I learnt of the death of Kathleen Doyle, Laheen South who died at the General Hospital, Mullingar on May 15th 2013. Kathleen had been cared for at the Shannon Lodge Nursing Home, Rooskey for many years. We all remember Kathleen as a lovely lady when she worked for Reynolds’ Drapery here on Main Street. She was most obliging and was held in the highest esteem by all her customers. A lady of deep faith, she had a great sense of humour and it was always good to be in her company.

Her removal took place to St. Patrick’s Church, Mohill on Monday morning May 20th last for Requiem Mass at which the celebrant Fr. Sean Burke spoke eloquently about Kathleen and sympathised with her nephew, niece, cousins and all who mourn Kathleen at this sad time and to whom we offer our deepest sympathy. The beautiful music by Gerry McLoughlin added to the solemnity of this sad occasion. “Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on and cherished memories never die because a loved one’s gone”. May her dear soul Rest in Peace.

Mohill Community Network

Adjudication time for the Tidy Towns competition commences 1 June. We need your help to make our town look it’s best and a special effort by all is needed in the coming weeks. We meet Tuesdays at 7pm and 10am on Saturdays in front of St. Patrick’s Church and need as many volunteers as psssible, old and new, to give us a hand. We are behind in our work because of the bad weather. Please ensure your building facade and windows are clean and the footpaths outside premises are litter and weed free. Please also refrain from fly-posting in the town and approach roads as this loses the town significant marks.
