Change of Day for Blood Bank The Blood Transfusion mobile unit team will return again to The Community Centre, Ballinamore on Wednesday 29th May from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m and 7.00p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Please note the change of day. Some 3000 units (pints) of blood are needed overall each week to cater for emergency and routine cases requiring transfusions of blood and blood products in hospitals all over the country.

Drama Festival meeting

A short meeting of the drama festival committee will be held upstairs in La Nua on Thursday night next, May 23rd at 9pm.

Annual May Run Walk or Roll

The Annual May Run Walk or Roll in aid of Cancer Research / North West Hospice will take place on Sunday May 26th 2013 starting from Aughnasheelin Community Centre at 4 p.m. Entry fee €10. Sponsorship cards on request – contact Cáit at 087 2123703. Join the walk and you will not only support a good cause but you will also bring your friends and families together for a great fun afternoon.

If you can’t walk you can still donate on by contacting the above number. If you’re donating but not walking why not join us for refreshments in the Community Centre following the event.

Coding for Kids for free

We are setting up a free coding for kids class in Ballinamore. Coding is the way you build websites, computer games and Apps. Coding is very useful for kids and adults alike. CoderDojo is the organisation worldwide who want to teach kids to code for free.

All the information is here There are over 50 coderdojos in Ireland today. We need adults and kids to email us to see if we have enough interest. We intend to have one every Saturday for 1 or 2 hours. This is open to all kids the Leitrim/Cavan/Longford/Fermanagh area. Please email if you want to help or are interested in joining.

Exhibition in Library

Bantracht na Tuaithne Seanfhocal (ICA Proverb Exhibition) is on display in Ballinamore library until Wednesday 29th May during Library Opening Hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 – 1.30 and 2.30 – 5.30. Tuesday and Thursday 10 – 1.30 and 2.30 to 8.00. Saturday 10 -1.30 and 2.30 – 5.00.

Seán O’Heslin’s GAA

100 Years Celebration: The weekend of our 100 years celebrations will also see the Dialogues Through Literature Symposium taking place on the Friday and Saturday 28 and 29 June. Many prominent writers will be speaking at the event. The big Celebration on the Saturday night will also include the presentation of the Ladies 9 a side Minor medals from 2012.

Old Mobile Phones Wanted: Our Defibrillator in the clubrooms is out of action and we can obtain a replacement by collecting 50 old mobile phones. We will be putting a box in the clubrooms and if you have an old mobile please deposit it there or give to Raymond McHugh.

Film Hour in Library

On Tuesday, 28th May at 7.30pm as part of its season of films, Ballinamore Library will show “The Life of Pi” This academy award winning film should be of interest to both young and old. Remember admission to the film is free and all are welcome. So go along sit back and relax while watching this lovely film on big screen.

Senior Citizens Party

The first party of the year will be held in Trathnona Community Centre on Thursday night May 23rd at 9pm. Refreshments will be served followed by music and dancing so please come along and bring a friend for a great night of music and dancing.

MS World Day

Venue: St George’s Heritage Hall, Carrick (opposite Bush Hotel, top of hill) Time: 3pm to 6pm. You are invited to join us on Wednesday, 29th May to mark World MS Day and help raise funds on the day with our members and friends - enjoy tea/coffee, information on MS, raffle for great prises, and just to have a pleasant cup of tea.

Ballinamore PPS Closing Celebration

The final closing of the three post primary schools in Ballinamore at the end of May is being marked with a function on Sunday June 2nd.All past and present students, staff and parents are invited to join in this celebration. Free Preschool (ECCE) for children born between 2nd February 2009 to 30th June 30th 2010. Also Community Childcare Subvention (CCS) scheme applies. (Reduced childcare fees) to disadvantaged and low income parents.

Open week for new children attending the services is Monday 10th June to Friday 14th June between 9am – 12 noon any day. Children 2yrs 10mths – to school going age are eligible to attend. Town Steering Group meeting

You are invited to attend a public meeting in The Commercial Hotel on Wednesday, 22nd May at 9pm to hear an update on ideas for usage of Courthouse, school buildings etc which will become vacant in the near future. Ballinamore has much to look forward to with the new school, the new Scout Den and the anticipated commencement of the new hospital. Now is the time for us all to come together and pool our ideas as to the future of our town. All welcome to attend.

Lollipop Kids open week

Lollipop Kids are now taking bookings for September 2013 for children who are 2 years 10 months on 1st September 2013. We are also providing places under the ECCE scheme. If your child is going to school in September 2013 and born between 2/2/09 and 30/6/10 they are entitled to avail of the free preschool year.

Margaret’s Hooley

‘Margaret’s Hooley – a night of entertainment in aid of Margaret of New Orleans Birthplace on Friday 24 May 2013 in the Corn Mill Theatre & Arts Centre, Carrigallen.

This is a podium for young emerging talent, and experienced performers to take to the stage in Hooley style. Artists performing include: Seamus O’Rourke, Gus Ward, Karl McCartin School of Irish dancing, Finnegan Family school of Irish music and their students, Padraic Lynch school of music and his students, John McCartin, Kevin Patrick (Brennan) poetry, Drama by LYTC Carrigallen, Carrigallen Writers Group Margaret Maguire, Charlie Farrelly Club performers, Maria Mathews and Jack Williamson, Kate Reilly, Elizabeth Doonan, Angel of the Delta Choir, and much more.

Community Walk and Talk

South Leitrim Community Health Forum and Primary Care Team and Co Leitrim Community Forum are organising a Community Walk and Talk event as part of the Green Ribbon initiative. This initiative is part of the Walk and Talk for Positive Mental Health project, recently launched in Leitrim.

This project aims to start the conversation amongst people by promoting “walk and talk” events in schools, workplaces and community settings. The project has been developed in Leitrim by four agencies; Leitrim Development Company, Mental Health Ireland, STOP Suicide and Leitrim Sports Partnership working together to help get the conversation started on changing minds about mental health. Date: Wednesday 29th May 2013 Time: 7.30pm. Meeting Point: Outside Supervalu in Ballinamore: the walk is planned along the canal, which should take about an hour. Please come along and join us.

Our new ministers of the Eucharist have taken up duty. We thank all the ministers for their service to us. It is not blessed bread but the real and true Body of Jesus that they give to us. They have been prepared and commissioned to do so. Only they should give out Communion. Ministers may also bring communion to the sick or elderly in their homes

Keep her Fit

Keep her Fit is getting close, Thursday morning the 23rd of May at 8am. Michelle Fanning of Assorted Fitness will be having a Breakfast with Hector aerobic gathering in Ballinamore hall as part of Ireland’s biggest simultaneous aerobics class. All are welcome to take part.

Michelle was on Breakfast with Hector last Tuesday talking about it. Also our new 6 week programme of fitness classes is starting this week and we welcome all new participants for any further information or a class timetable contact Michelle on 087 9390980.
