Lighthearted walk a brilliant success!

Oh what an evening! It was absolutely brilliant to young ‘n’ old and the inbetweeners out walking “for the good of their health” on Friday evening down through the village of Dromahair. We had lots to celebrate and to chat about; the lovely evening, the 1st day of Spring but the big buzz was about the wonderful DARC Group getting the Leader Grant of €178,000 and all that will mean to the village.

A group of maybe 200 (including the Chairman of Darc Dr Gerry Ballantine (GP) left the Health Centre; very many in high-vis jackets and carrying torches, lanterns, candles etc.

Great auld buzz altogether! Others joined in along the way. Hugely empowering and very emotional to see’n’ hear the excited youngsters elated that they’re at long last getting a playground!

In truth we as a community of Dromahair and surrounding areas have a lot more to celebrate (out door gym, nature-walk etc). We’re have to congratulate ourselves for firstly achieving raising over 178,000 in these stringent times in order that we could get this Grant. So well done folks!

We had lots of people from Killargue, Newtownmanor, the 4 ‘n’ 5 Crossroads and surrounding areas including Manorhamilton out celebrating .A few took off like the clappers; but most of us just took our timeand savoured the atmosphere. Some of us hobbled!!!

As we’re just coming near the Pavilion, what/who did we see only the bould John Kelly in his white Riverbank Van. He had just made a delivery of FREE hot finger food, Delicious ‘n’ finger lickin good. Many thanks to all to helped on the evening by making teas/coffees etc and all those who gave food!! Great atmosphere!

A book was passed round on the evening and only half the people got a chance to see it much less sign same. We’re leaving this book in Gilmours shop and inviting anyone who was on the walk or wants to celebrate it please just sign the book. We’re keeping it for the archives!!! Who knows this could be the 1st of many celebrations that we’ll have in the village!
