Melvin Gaels Open Day and Registration
Melvin Gaels Bord na nOg held an Open Day on Saturday 2nd March from 10.30am to 12.30pm. The theme of the event was “Failte Isteach” with the emphasis placed on inclusion. An invitation via local newspapers was issued to all members of the surrounding community to come and visit our club facility and meet club members and players. Special effort was made in the lead up to this event by our club chairperson David Gillespie and coaching officer, Pat Gallagher, who visited all the schools in the area to advertise the Open Day. The purpose of the day was to encourage people from the community to learn more about their local GAA club. The focus was on welcoming those who may be new to the area and who may not have had involvement with Melvin Gaels in the past. We were blessed with a dry, bright day at Melvin Park which helped ensure that families turned up in large numbers to enjoy the organised activities. Eight members of the winning Melvin Gaels County championship team were on hand to provide coaching and share tips as they guided the children through a variety of football drills and skills, culminating in football games based on the Go Games model. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who contributed to the success of the day, especially those players and members of the Senior Board who gave so generously of their time.
