Book launch

Book launch

On Saturday March 9th next in Mulvey’s, Main Street, Carrick-on-Shannon, a new book, “My Angels And Me” by Inez McPadden will be launched and Inez will be singing copies. The launch and signing will be from 4pm to 6pm. Inez McPadden is no stranger around Drumkeerin. People will recall her outstanding performances on stage with Drumkeerin Drama Group in such plays as “The Able Dealer”, “Is the Priest At Home?” and “Widow’s Paradise”. Married Francis McPadden, Kilavoggy, the McPadden family have been involved with Drumkeerin GAA Club for over four decades and have given remarkable service to the club.

It takes great courage to write the first book. So of all our community say well done and heartily deserved congratulstions. Inez confesses that she never intended to write a book. However for years she had been searching for clarity in her life. There was a desire to get a chapter of her life on paper to benefit others. We all seek peace. Most people experience at some time unexpected adversity and trauma. Inez says we should look for the gifts through adversity, not the challenges. According to the book’s editor, Rick Johnsson, “Inez assures us that one person at a time and with the help of our guardian angels, we can each find our purpose in the world and throught the inner peace that results, a wider world peace will emerge. She is indeed convincing. This book was written from the heart and meant for the soul”.

So we look forward to the launch on Saturday next and then follows the reading of the book.

Next round in the Darts will be in Wynnes’s Lounge on Sunday, March 10th. The winner last week was David McManus.

A very important meeting of Drumkeerin Tidy Towns will be held on Wednesday, March 13th, commencing at 9.30pm in the Community Centre. This is a very important meeting. It is important that we get a good meeting representative of businesses, the various housing areas and estates so that a plan for this year’s activities is drawn up. Please continue the good community spirit so appreciated in 2013.

Our thoughts with Betty and Family

Our thoughts are very much with Betty McPadden and family who have been twice bereaved within a month, first with the death of Betty’s sister, Maureen McPartlan in Leeds on January 30th. On February 24th, Betty’s other sister, Sheila McCullagh, Plumbridge, Co. Tyrone died after a brief illness. Her funeral took place on Thursday, February 28th. We extend sympathy to Betty and her family on her two sad losses.

Peter Gilhooly

It is with regret that we record the death of Peter Gilhooly, Boyle, Co. Roscommon and formerly of Bernatownly, Tawnylea, Drumkeerin. Sympathy is extended to his sister, Maura Morgan, nephews, Tony and Barry Morgan, grandnieces, grandnephew, sister-in-law Kay Mattimoe.

Gospel Choir performance

The Gospel Choir from Virgina Co. Cavan will perform a wonderful concert in St. Mary’s Church, Killenummery on Palm Sunday, March 24th at 7pm sharp. This performance will mark the beginning of Holy Week and will be a lovely start to the cermeonies during the holiest week of the year. The Gospel Choir performed on the all-popular show, “Ireland’s Got Talent” and did very well during the series. There will be a donation of one’s choice at the entrance to the performance and all the proceeds will go directly to the Hospice in Sligo. The Hospice needs to raise much money every year and this will be our contribution to this very worthy cause as well as enjoying a great night’s entertainment. Please support this performance and give what you can afford to the collection box for the hospice in Sligo. Looking forward to meeting you.
