St Patrick’s Day parade

Falling on a Sunday this year giving all of us a great opportunity to participate in the Ballinamore Parade. This is an open invitation to all groups and individuals to take part in an even bigger and better parade, with prizes for a number of different categories including best overall, best on foot, best float and many more with a new prize given to the best dressed spectator in their traditional green, white and gold....So root out those colours and make your way to the parade. The final of the Francis McGirl Memorial Cup was played last Friday night in Ossies, there was a full house to see a repeat of last year’s final between McGirl’s and

Shortt’s (A). McGirl’s retained the Cup on a score line of (5) games to (2). The standard of darts was top class, great scoring and great check outs.

Paddy Harty presented the Cup and Trophies on behalf of the Aughnasheelin Gun Club who sponsored the competition. Michael McGirl the winning teams captain thanked all his team for the efforts they put in during the season so far, and he thanked Shortt’s for a very good game. Terry Shortt congratulated McGirl’s on a great performance, thanked all the teams who took part in the competition.

The winning team was Michael McGirl, Barney McAdam, Richard McDermott, Tony McHugh, Paul Maguire, Gerry Mahon, Eamon Benison, Greg McGovern, Colm McGirl, Jimmy Walsh, Andy Ralph, Eugene Maguire, Sean Maguire and Keith Boyle. The beaten finalists were: Dale Hogan, Tom Ryan, Junior McGuigan, Richard Venton, Shean O’Neill, Grant Carter, Dathi Reilly, Charley McGuigan, Vernon Donohoe, Allan Parker, Christy Reilly, Declan Timmons, Ciaran McManus.

Thanks to Ciaran Harty and Connor Scollan who ran the whole show, thanks also to Ossie for refreshments and sponsoring the raffle and thanks to everyone who bought tickets, thanks to Sean Quinn and Garvin McBrien who marked all the games, and once again thanks to the Aughnasheelin Gun Club for their very generous sponsorship.

The next competition starts next Friday night the 8th of March, the draw was made for this some weeks ago and it’s a knock out so it will be over in about three weeks. First named have home venue: Fenagh V Shortt’s (A) – Ossies V Freddie’s, Jackie’s have a bye and McGirl’s V Shortt’s (B) starting time in all games


Ballinamore Women’s Group

Monthly meeting of Ballinamore women’s group takes place on Wednesday 6th March at 8pm in Trathnona. A guest speaker will attend speaking on health matters. Yearly subscription is now due 10 euros. All members are asked to attend.

Ballinamore Bridge Club

Eucharistic Ministers: It is hoped over the coming weeks to recruit and train new Ministers of the Eucharistic to serve in the Parish. If you feel you would be preparedto take on this role or wish to find out more please contact Fr. Heerey or any member of the Parish Council. This is open to anyone over the age of 18 years.

Whist Drive

Ballinamore Whist Drive there will be NO whist drive on March 7th owing to Drama Festival in Community Centre. Whist drive will be held on April Thursday 4th at NEW TIME 9pm. Everybody welcome.

Ballinamore Easter Spraoi

Ballinamore Easter Spraoi in association with Waterways Ireland will be held this year during Easter weekend from 30th of March until 1st of April. Events and activities for all ages including Soap Box Rally, Water Sports and Canoe Skills and a Vintage and Heritage Street Display. The AGM of Ballinamore Gun Club will take place on Wednesday night March 6th at 8.30pm in Smyth’s Pub Ballinamore. All members are asked to make a special effort

Irish Leaving Cert Revision Course

Irish Leaving Cert Revision Course covering all aspects of the Irish Oral Exam worth 40% will be on in St. Mary’s GAA grounds, Granard on Saturday March 9th from 10-3pm and in Trivia House, Swanlinbar on Sunday 10th March from 12-5pm.
