Quiet Bank Holiday

Around this region there was not much excitement during the May Bank Holiday Weekend, the weather was good. It’s a pity that business people don’t get together and organise some form of festival to attract people. People will simply not stop in a place that looks like a ghost town.

Corncrake heard in Carrigallen

An early morning bird watcher from the Mill Lane area of Carrigallen claims he heard the corncrake sing last week. He is sure it was the long-forgotten bird that was singing close to the adjoining lake. It’s good news as it’s been many years since it was heard around the region.

If the Government goes through with their plans to take away the Social Welfare payments to people from the Post Office, it will be the final nail in the coffin for these outlets. The plan is for pensioners and all other welfare payments to be issued with a card to enable you to collect your dole in a supermarket or any outlet. The Post Office is used all across the world. Why tamper with it here in Ireland? 400 more Post Offices are in the firing line to close soon.
