Mayfly competition

This year’s competition will be held on Lough Key but due to the weather variants the date is to be announced so keep your eye on Boyle and District Angling Club Blog and of course the Mayfly Hatch. The club hope to run the competition over 2 days, Saturday 10am until 10pm and Sunday12 midday until 8pm with the presentation in the Moylurg Inn on the Sunday evening. This is subject to change. Proposed date for competition at time of posting May 17th/18th. This is for Club members only.

Curlew Walkers Club

The next outing of Walkers Club will take place on Sunday, May 26 meeting on the Crescent, Boyle at 10am. This will be a Climb and Grade B+ at Ox Mountain. The leader for the day will be Henk Meijnhardt 087 2733373. Please confirm times with leaders.

Curlew Warrior Event

The Curlew Warrior 10k Walk, Run or Hike will be held on Sunday, May 19 with lots of gifts ... Apple iPad Mini from Trojan, Kilronan Castle and Spa accommodation, €150 Voucher from Stewarts Oil and many more. There will also be special prizes for participants who dress up as Superhero or Celtic Warrior. The course is now officially measured by the Athletics Association of Ireland. Entry €10. Prizes for 1st Female, 1st Male, 1st Team, best period or fancy dress. Cookery Demo

Return of the Rossies

Home of the famous Moone Boy series, Boyle invites you to join all there for a week long gathering festival with a jam packed schedule sure to entice the whole family. The events will take place throughout the Boyle area with highlights in Lough Key and King House. Events open with the Launch on Thursday May 23rd up to and including Sunday June 2. Up Up and Away

Hot Air Balloons will enthral both the young and the not so young. Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May will bring back memories to many who saw the balloons in Lough Key Forest Park 20 years ago thanks to Roscommon County Council. Balloon launches will be from the beautiful Lough Key Forest Park in Boyle so if you want to see the balloons inflate and launch you will need to be in the park by 6.30 am and 6.30pm. Irish Balloon Flights are taking bookings for hot air balloon rides. These flights must be booked in advance and there are limited spaces available so book early to avoid disappointment. No bookings will be taken over that weekend. Angling event - Lough Key

As part of the Gathering Celebrations and the Return of the Rossies Boyle and District Angling Club are inviting visitors to Lough Key to participate in a pike angling event on Tuesday May 28 at 2pm until 4pm. Younger potential anglers and their parents are welcome to be taken by the club members onto to the lake, all equipment will be supplied. All you have to do is enjoy and catch fish. Celebration Concert

Tickets for Boyle Musical Society’s eagerly anticipated 30th Celebration Concert are now on sale. The accomplished, award winning chorus and soloists of Boyle Musical Society, who are presenting their 30th show, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, later this year, will come together for what promises to be a truly magical and memorable musical experience. With a great reputation, a diverse repertoire and accompanied by their Musical Director, Anne Kielty, a spectacular night’s entertainment is guaranteed from the group.

Band of Brass at King House

Start your June Bank Holiday on the right note with Band of Brass who will perform a special concert in the elegant Main Salon of King House, Boyle on Thursday, May 30. As guests of Boyle Arts Festival, this talented ensemble of eight accomplished Mayo musicians will present a lively and eclectic programme of well-known brass standards, light jazz and classical favourites under the direction of Ballina native Jackie Greham, M.D. of Castlebar Concert Band. Farmers Market

There will be lots of colour at the Market on Saturday with the return of Rose with her hanging baskets, tubs and shrubs. The market will be displaying signs throughout the week with all special offers that you can avail of. The weekly market offers you the opportunity to talk first hand with the local growers and producers that provide fresh, locally grown produce, including organic seasonal vegetables, organic meat and poultry, home bakes, fruit juices, jams, sauces, organic eggs, gluten and wheat free breads and fresh fish, the market also provides organic chemical free Aloe Vera based products and hand painted, hand lettered wooden wall hangings and decorative plaques, to name but a few. BOYLE MODEL RAILWAY: A project for the community, by the community. Currently being constructed upstairs in Trojan, volunteers are needed to build scenery, painting, paper mache, assembling building/bridges, making trees and plenty more!
