Victory for Drumlea Girls
Drumlea girls marked their first outing in the Cumann na mBunscoileanna 2013 competition with a 9-5 to 6-9 victory over Gortletteragh in the latter’s grounds on last Thursday evening. They got off to the best possible start with five unanswered goals, courtesy of Shauna Lavin (2), Emer McCabe (2) and Sinéad Edwards (1) before determined Gortletteragh turned the tide to leave the interval score reading 6-4 to 3-4. On the resumption two further Gortletteragh goals in the 3rd and 4th minutes narrowed the deficit to a goal, but two goals and a point from Drumlea’s Emer McCabe, and a Sinéad Shannon goal and a point steadied their side. Defiant Gortletteragh were still in no mood for surrender, and finished the game positively with three unanswered points.
Megan Lavin’s two second half saves, when Gortletteragh really applied the pressure, made the difference between victory and defeat. Michelle McCabe and her partner Ella Quinn were two assured full backs. At midfield Emer McCabe and Oníosa Mimna worked their socks off, and their constant ball supply to the two flying full forwards played a big part in the totals scored by Shaun Lavin (3-1) and Sinéad Edwards (2-2). The Drumlea panel was Megan Lavin, Michelle McCabe, Ella Quinn, Emer McCabe (4-2), Oníosa Mimna, Shauna Lavin (3-1), Sinéad Edwards (3-1), Caoimhe Prior, Siobhán Maguire, Molly Prior, Ella Galligan Maguire and Caitlin Quinn.
