The late Noreen McGreevy
The death has occurred of Honoria (Noreen) McGreevy, Woodbrook, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Roscommon and London on Wednesday, April 17th 2013 in London, peacefully after a long illness. Daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Ellen, Noreen was predeceased by her brother Michael. She is survived by her brothers Paddy, Ronan, Sean and Clement, sisters Eileen, Georgina and Beda, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, relatives and many friends. Her remains reposed at the family home on Friday, April 26th from 5 o’clock to 9 o’clock. Removal took place on Saturday, April 27th to St. Michael’s Church, Drumlion for Funeral Mass at 2 o’clock. Burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May she rest in peace.
The late Emily Rooney
We record the death of Emily Rooney, Breffni Crescent, Carrick-on-Shannon which occurred on Wednesday, April 24th 2013, peacefully, at the Plunkett Home, Boyle. She is survived by her daughters Maureen and Christina, son Michael, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and large circle of friends. Her remains reposed at the Mortuary at St. Patrick’s Hospital, Carrick-on-Shannon on Thursday, April 25th with removal at 6.30pm to St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon arriving at 7pm. Burial took place in St. Mary’s Cemetery on Friday, April 26th after 12 o’clock Mass. May she rest in peace.
The late Michael McD Fleming
The death has taken place of Michael McD Fleming, Kilboderry, Carrick-on-Shannon, former Acting County Engineer, on Wednesday, April 24th 2013, peacefully, at St. Patrick’s Hospital, Carrick-on-Shannon. He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie and is survived by his son Tom, daughter-in-law Marie, granddaughter Niamh, relatives and friends. Remains reposed at St. Patrick’s Chapel Hospital on Saturday, April 27th with removal to St. Mary’s Church. Christian Burial took place on Sunday, April 28th at 12 o’clock with Funeral afterwards to St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Revival of Old Colliers Folk Club at the Thatch
Since Packie Duignan’s time, fiddlers and flutes in Roscommon and Leitrim have been to the fore in the local area. Fiddlers and flute players are invited to take part in music sessions on Friday nights at the Thatch Pub, Elphin Road, Carrick-on-Shannon to revive the particular sound and beautiful blend of fiddle and flute music. Kiltoghert Pioneer Centre Meeting
The May meeting of the Kiltoghert Pioneers will be held in the Parish Office on Friday May 3rd at 8:30pm. All members are encouraged to attend and as always, new members are welcome to join us. The pioneer Annual Members Raffle 2013 will commence shortly. Tickets for the Raffle will be distributed at our next meeting and further details will follow.
Pioneer Associate Members Raffle
The annual Pioneer Associate Members Raffle has a number of very attractive prizes on offer for the 2013 event. 1st prize is €3,000 with 2nd and 3rd prizes of €500 and €250 respectively. Tickets are modestly priced at €2 each, a book of 6 tickets cost €10 (a free one when purchasing a full book). USNA Bridge Club Results
The results of the Bridge game played in the Bush Hotel on Monday April 22nd are as follows: North/South: 1st Eleanor Shortt and Kathleen Reynolds, 2nd Des Clarke and Margaret Clarke, 3rd Sean Sloan and Pat Dowd, 4th Frnak O’Brien and Lily O’Brien. East/West: 1st Kathy Gallagher and Johnny Rogers, 2nd Harry O’Flynn and Delores O’Flynn, 3rd Bertha Patterson and Mary Cummins, 4th Margaret Lenehan and Kathleen Loftus. The final bridge game of the 2012-2013 season took place on April 2013 in the Bush Hotel with dinner and presentation of prizes. Looking forward to seeing all players when we resume in September 2013.

Tidy Towns News
A big thank you to 13 volunteers who came out on Tuesday evening last and did great work washing the railings at the Market Yard. Thank you to Flynns Takeaway and Vittos restaurant for playing their part too. We were supplied with ample warm water to wash the railings from John at the Takeaway. 3 big pizzas were shared among all workers compliments of Vittos. The work continues weekly - we welcome all volunteers on Tuesday evenings at 7.00pm - nearby Moon River is our meeting point. Then we move on to the work location. Sat and Sunday mornings we do litter pick around where necessary. Thank you again to all who have helped us. See you again soon please. The three complimentary pizzas from Vitto were absolutely delicious. A taste of Italy on a bright Tuesday in Carrick. Highly recommended.
