Ballinamore PPS Closing Celebration

Ballinamore PPS Closing Celebration

The final closing of the three post primary schools in Ballinamore at the end of May is being marked with a function on Sunday, June 2nd. All past and present students, staff and parents are invited to join in this celebration. The event starts with concelebrated mass in St. Patrick’s Church, Ballinamore at 5pm, which will be followed with a BBQ, entertainment, a chat and reminiscences in Meanscoil Fatima.

The committee would welcome photographs, memorabilia, old uniforms or part thereof, old magazines, etc. Photographs can be scanned and emailed to ballinamoreppsreunion@gmail.com or dropped into or posted to the school office at St. Felims, where they will be copied and returned. Annual May Run Walk or Roll

The Annual May Run Walk or Roll in aid of Cancer Research / North West Hospice will take place on Sunday May 26th 2013 starting from Aughnasheelin Community Centre at 4 p.m. Entry Fee €10. Sponsorship cards on request – contact Cáit at 0872123703. Join the walk and you will not only support a good cause but you will also bring your friends and families together for a great fun afternoon. Last year 200 men, women, children, cats and dogs ran, walked, cycled and enjoyed a great afternoon in beautiful settings. Together with those who donated on line over €10,000 was raised for Cancer Research and this year we hope to exceed that for these two very worthy causes. If you can’t walk you can still donate on MyCharity.ie or by contacting the above number. If you’re donating but not walking why not join us for refreshments in the Community Centre following the event.

Ballinamore Twinning

We have just wished au revoir to a group of students and their leaders from Plouezec. They thoroughly enjoyed their stay here last week. Sincere thanks to the host families and to any others who helped in any way during the week. It is now our turn to go there! Why not think about it!

Bridge Club

Ballinamore Bridge Club extend their deepest sympathy to the family on the anniversary of the late Howard Cusack who died on May 2nd 2012. He was a member of the club for a number of years and excelled at the game of bridge. Sincere sampathy is extended to his son Matthew and his partner Louise, sister Monica, brother Jim and his extended family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Church Street, Ballinamore, Sunday Service is at 12.15pm every Sunday except on the 4th Sunday which is held in Drumreilly Church.

Place names of County Leitrim.

As Part of the Gathering Celebrations Sean Ó Suilleabháin former County Librarian will give a Lecture on the Placenames of County Leitrim in Ballinamore Library on Tuesday, 7th May at 9pm. Placenames, their meanings, how they came about and how they were translated from Gaelic to English is fascinating. This should prove to be a very informative and interesting evening not to be missed, with time for questions and discussion following the lecture. Remember admission is free and everyone is welcome.

Pride and Prejudice 200

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Publication of “Pride and Prejudice” Ballinamore Library staff have put together a small exhibition on “Pride and Prejudice” and the life of Jane Austen. There is also a selection of Jane Austen books including a number of copies of “Pride and Prejudice” on display and available for loan. On Tuesday 30th April at 7.30pm the film adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice” will be shown in the library. Admission free and all welcome.

New Primary Care Centre

The plans for the new Primary Care Centre and Care Management, Tully, Ballinamore can be viewed at Ballinamore library; Opening Hours, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 – 1.30pm and 2.30 – 5.30. Tuesday and Thursday 10 - 1.30pm and 2.30 – 8.00. Saturday 10 – 1.30pm and 2.30 -- 5.00.

Ballinamore Afterschool

Ballinamore Afterschool would like to thank everyone who came along on the 13th April 2013 to help celebtate 10 years in Ballinamore. We had a great day and everyone enjoyed the event. A special thanks to everyone who helped out. We are looking forward to a bright future and many more years of childcare in Ballinamore - Deirdre, Phyllis and Teresa.

Cáirde Liatroim is holding a fund raising dance with TR Dallas, Mickey Clerkin and Seán McAloon in the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon on Thursday 9th May. Start 8pm. Church’s 50th Year Celebration

National Day for Life

Diabetes Information Meeting

A Public Information Meeting is being organised by the Leitrim Branch of the Diabetes Federation of Ireland in the Ramada Hotel, Drumshanbo, on Wed May 1st at 8.00 p.m. The speaker is Dr Wilma Lourens, Consultant Diabetologist at Sligo Hospital and the topic is “Prevention and Reversal of Type 2 Diabetes and Changing the Concept of Diet for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes”. All are welcome

Active Age Group

Ballinamore Women’s Group

There are some place available for the weekend trip to Letterkenny, staying in the Mount Errigal Hotel from the 17th to 19th of May. MS Church Gate Collection

Many thanks to all the generous people who gave recently to our collection. This collection is vital to the running of our branch. A big thanks you to the people who collected for us for without them there would be no collection.

Clothing appeal

United Christian Aid is once again appealing for clothes for families & orphanages in Moldova. Any kind of wearable clothing, men’s, women’s, children’s. Bed wear, nappies, soft toys. In need of Communion & Wedding Dresses. Collection will take place at O’Brien’s Sports Shop Ballinamore Saturday 4th May. From 11am to 4pm only. Part-time courses

Higher Attainment Through Cross-border Hubs (HATCH) is a part-financed European Union INTERREG lVA initiative. The programme is finalising recruitment for courses specifically designed for those in the Construction & Engineering Sector, Foreign Nationals and Female Entrepreneurs, including Business Management, Wind Turbine Installation, Renewable Energy Applications, Sustainable Building Design & Construction and Cambridge ESOL’s Business English. These part-time courses are accredited and delivered by the South West College and University of Ulster and are free to eligible participants. The courses are in Cavan and Enniskillen/ Omagh.
