Wine & Dine Night
The Source cookery school is holding a Wine & Dine Night on Thursday 2nd May starting at 8pm. For this you’ll get a cookery demonstration, a chance to sample a salad, main course and dessert and all enjoyed with a glass of wine. Taking place at 1-2 John Street Sligo the tickets are limited so book now - €30 a person. All proceeds will go to North West Simon.
Invasive gas mining
A presentation at Leitrim Community Centre, Leitrim Village, May 2nd - 8.30pm. This is an opportunity to hear first-hand account of the “Impacts of Gasfields on Communities: The Australian experience”. The speaker, Annie Kia, is a leading member of Australia’s Lock the Gate Alliance and will be giving a talk on Invasive gas mining - shale, coal seam gas (lignite) and tight sands.
Charity handbag sale

Cáirde Liatroim is holding a fund raising dance in aid of People with Special Needs with TR Dallas, Mickey Clerkin and Seán McAloon in the Bush Hotel Carrick-On-Shannon on Thursday 9th May starting at 8pm. Cáirde Liatroim is a social club which provides outings for people with special needs. Great raffle prizes on the night. Tickets available at the door or contact 0862545613.
National bag pack in all Tesco stores
A National bag pack in all Tesco Stores across Ireland will be taking place on 17th & 18th May. The North West Simon Community is asking for volunteers to help out with this in Letterkenny, Sligo, Ballinamore & Carrick-on-Shannon - if you can give an hour or two please contact Mary on 087 7708865.
Geopark Gourmet Tour
For those of you who enjoy a Sunday lunch out then how about this? The annual Geopark Gourmet Tour is taking place on Sunday 19th May. The tour not only takes in the wonderful scenery of the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark but it will include Sunday Lunch at Macnean Restaurant, home to RTE Celebrity Chef, Neven Maguire. The trip will leave Cavan Courthouse at 9am and will travel directly to the world-famous Marble Arch Caves for a guided tour. From the caves a short journey will be made to Blacklion for Sunday Lunch at Macnean Restaurant. Lunch will be followed by a guided tour of the Cavan Burren, one of the finest archaeological sites in north-west Ireland. The tour will return to Cavan Courthouse at approximately 6pm. Places are limited for this tour so booking is essential. The tour is suitable for adults and children of all ages as there is only a limited amount of walking. Celebrating the Year of Faith
To celebrate the Year of Faith, the Parish of Killenummery and Killery is hosting a Vision Week in May 2013. Each evening from Monday 20th May to Saturday 25th May, people are invited to gather for a time of prayer and to hear a different guest speaker. Guest speakers during the week include Oisin McConville, Dr Tony Bates and Mark Harte. On Wednesday we will welcome first class relics of St. PadroPio and hear the remarkable story of Sean and Ann Mulrine. With an exciting programme of guest speakers and time for prayer and reflection this promises to be an event not to miss. Reunion planning group meeting
Next meeting will be held on 22nd May starting at 8.30pm. There was a very low turn out at the meeting last week, which is concerning given that the three day event will take more people to get involved than the small number of people showing up to the meetings! The planning group are collecting numbers for people who are planning to come along to the Reunion Supper on the Saturday 17th August. Apostolic cake sale
Advanced warning that this annual cake sale will be taking place in the foyer of St Brigid’s Church, Killargue on Saturday 25th May. All donations of cakes will be gratefully received but also do buy one of these delicious offerings all in aid of the missions.

Schools reunion Facebook page
To remind you again. The Facebook page is up and running giving information and pictures of some of the schools, some of the people and some of Killargue places. Entitled Killargue Schools Reunion 2013, just type that into a search engine and off you’ll be taken to the page! If you don’t have access to a computer why not pop into the library and have a look at the page on one of their computers? The page is beginning to become quite successful with lots of comments, particularly in relation to the schools photos. This week there’s even one photo that seems to dat from 1910!. More photos going up on it all the time togther with other information as available.
John McKenna Second Gathering Concert
The John McKenna Second Gathering Concert in Drumkeerin Community Centre on next Sunday, May 5th commencing at 8.30pm promises to be a grat night of music, song and dance when the West London Music Group and Armagh CCE Group will bring a great night’s entertainment. Many people will recall the West London Music Group’s last visit with fondess. Once again Mary Gilhooly and family will be with them. There will also be many local artists involved and will include some young ones in music and song.
