Four Masters NS Enrolment

Parents wishing to enrol children for the 2013/2014 school year should do so on or before Friday, 29th March 2013. If a child has special needs his/her enrolment form must be submitted by March 8th 2013, so that application can be made to Special Education Needs Organiser for resources to help the Special Education Needs child cope in school. If a family is new to the school, the parents must meet with the Principal/Deputy Principal prior to enrolment. Enrolment forms are available from the school on 071-9841123.

Annual AA Irish/Scots Gathering

The Annual Alcoholics Anonymous Irish/Scots Gathering takes place in the Great Northern Hotel, Bundoran on the weekend of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of March 2013. Opening meeting at 8am on March 1st. Al Anon in attendance all weekend. Contact hotel for bookings. B&B offers available.

St Aidan’s NS, Ballintrillick Enrolment

Open night in Saint Aidan’s National School, Ballintrillick on Friday, 1st March at 7.00p.m. All welcome. Closing date for enrolment is Friday 8th March 2013. Enrolment forms are available from the school.

Kinlough & District Anglers AGM

The Annual General Meeting of Kinlough and District Anglers will be held in the Old School, Main Street, Kinlough on Thursday, February 21st at 8pm.

Askill Whist Drive

Whist Drive in Askill Community Centre on Sunday 17th February, at 8pm sharp, Supper served. All welcome. Results of last whist in Askill held on 10th February. John Gallagher, John O’Donnell, Peter Ferguson, Bridie Carty, Annie McGloin, Gerard Keown, Paddy Walsh. Raffle Winners were Ann Kelly, Pat McNelis, Beatrice McCauley, Anna Corrigan.

Operation Transformation

Operation Transformation 5K Walk this Sat 16th Feb at 12pm in Manorhamilton, Registration at Bee Park Resource Centre from 11am. Donations kindly accepted however small. Proceeds of registration to North West Simon Community a local charity preventing homelessness in Leitrim, Sligo & Donegal. Families and children urged to take part. Prizes on the day. Please come along and support and get fit. The route starts at the Bee Pk, heads out the Rossinver Rd, Deerpark, Castle St., Park Rd and finished back at Bee Park. Walking is a form of exercise accessible to just about everybody. It’s safe, simple and doesn’t require practice. And the health benefits are many.

New Training Initiative

Tribal body fitness is a new training initiative starting in the Kinlough community centre from next Wednesday morning, starting with two, one hour circuit classes, beginners (level 1) and intermediate (level 2) at 10 am and 11 am respectively, Wednesdays and Fridays for six weeks. Share your motivation in a ‘tribe’ oriented atmosphere, where personal goals will be achieved in a challenging but fun way. Cost for 12 classes is €60 or pay per class €7. (Payment plans negotiable). McGowan Clan Gathering

The McGowan Clan Gathering takes place on the August Bank Holiday weekend 2nd to 5th. Plans are being put in place for a weekend of Fun and Craic. Old photographs of people of Kinlough are wanted for a display during the weekend.

Parents Association Table Quiz

The Four Masters Parents Association Committee is hosting a fundraising Table Quiz on Friday, 1 March 2013 9.30pm in the The Wellington Bar, Kinlough. €20 per team of 4.

Prizes galore on the night. Come along and enjoy a great night.

First Aid Course

The Four Masters Parents Association Committee have also organised a First Aid Course by First Aid Aware in Four Masters NS on Saturday, 23 February at 10am, €30 & lunch


Paediatric first aid

Make sure you know what to do in an emergency. The Paediatric First Aid course is a relaxed course designed to give you an introduction to the skills needed for first aid with children. During the course, participants will get expert instruction which will make for an excellent learning environment. Completing this course will help you, as a parent or carer to deal with the various incidents which invariably occur as part of growing up, be they minor or otherwise. “Tour de Melvin” Fun Cycle Run

A Fun Cycle Run around Lough Melvin will be held next Sunday, February 17th in aid of the Melvin Gaels players’ injury fund and the Lydia Branley Trust Fund. Everyone young and old are invited to take part. It will start at Kinlough Community Centre and will go around Lough Melvin finishing at the Community Centre where there will be refreshments. Entry fee is €10 which will be donated to the funds. Registration commences at 9am. Draw on the day for prizes for entrants. Everyone welcome to take part. Local history project

This Valentine’s Day The Thursday Club will host the presentation of a local history project based on the memories of the Rossinver based Active Age Group. This will be followed by a performance by traditional musicians Jim and Francie Bainbridge. Everyone in the area is welcome to attend at the New Ballagh Centre, Rossinver from 11am-1pm on Thursday, 14th February, refreshments will be served after the performance.

Carns NS

Open evening in Carns National School, Moneygold, Grange, Co. Sligo on Thursday, 28th February (7 to 8Ppm). Carns School caters for children living in the parish of Ahamlish. Geology of the Northwest of Ireland

This talk will explain how the North West of Ireland has come to have its peculiar landscape, which constitutes a trademark recognised worldwide. By attending you will gain an understanding of the following: some fundamental principles of geology; which kind of rocks are present in the North West of Ireland and how they formed; events which shaped the landscape of this area; an overview of some of the natural resources (groundwater, minerals) and of hazards (landslides earthquakes) present in the area.
