Church area group meeting

The Church area group meeting which was scheduled for Tuesday, 26th February has been changed to Tuesday, 5th March. Church area group meetings will commence at 8 p.m. and followed by Parish Pastoral Council meeting commencing at 9.30 pm. The change of date is to facilitate the attendance of new members at the Annual General Meeting of Ardcarne Parish Graveyards Committee on Tuesday, 26th February.

The Spring Calender of events has got off to a very busy start for 2013. The soccer events took place recently and our Under 13 boys were beaten by a strong Drum/Clonown team. The team lined out as follows: Liam Kearns, Alan O’Connor, Jack McCawley, Jim Harte, Andrew Tiernan, Alexander Hanley, Shane O’Loughlin Glynn and Mark Heslin. Well done to all. Thanks to Jimmy Kearns and Tommy McCawley who looked after this team. The Under 10 team played 3 games so far to qualify for the semi final against Moore next Sunday in Strokestown at 11.30am. The team are as follows: Harry Bruen, Jack Lane, Christian Hanley, Sean Moran, Patrick Charles, Cathal Guckian, Bryan O’Connor and Kyle Keaveny. We wish the team and management well. Please come out and support them.

At the Chess games in Ballinameen, Ardcarne U-12 team, handed over the shield to an all girls team from Roscommon. Ardcarne played a tough semi- final against Taughmacconnell and this young team of Juliet Doyle, Christian Martin, Harry Bruen, Joni Ryan, and Johnny Doyle done very well. The Under 16’s won silver medals, having beaten Elphin to reach the final when they lost to a strong Ballinameen team. The team were as follows Aaron McQuaid, Orin Ryan, Caroline Doyle, Seamus Blackwell, Oisin O’Dowd and Niall Curry. Many thanks to Una Sugrue and her team for all their work with both teams. Good luck to both qualifying teams from Roscommon in the Connaught Final.

The quiz took place on Feb 15th and well done to Myriam Daly, Alan McGlynn, Sarah Smyth and Katie Corcoran who represented Ardcarne coming 6th. Thanks to Eithne Henry and team for coordinating our team. Good luck to Boyle who won again this year.

Please remember our Community Games Swim competition on Sunday, March 10th from 7 to 8pm in Leitrim Aura Leisure Centre. We look forward to seeing all families there. Good luck to all involved in the forthcoming Draughts event.

The basketball teams will hit the courts shortly and we wish them and all involved the best of luck. The committee are in the process of running the Art and Handwriting competitions and results will be announced shortly. Best wishes to our Debating team who will be representing the area in what is a new event for Community Games countrywide. Representing Ardcarne on this Friday 1st March in Castlerea will be Seamus Blackwell, Myriam Daly, Sadie Farrell and Diarmuid Regan.

The Cross Country trials took place on Saturday in Kilbride. Alan O’Connor came 2nd in the mixed distance relay and qualifies for the Roscommon team. Saoirse Rowan came in 6th and will be a member of the Roscommon Cross Country Girls team. Well done to Morgan Fitzgerald who ran a very good race in U 12. We look forward to many more years in this event for Morgan. Congratulations and continued success to you all.
