Dromod Festival 5th May
May 2 weeks and counting and everything is coming together nicely. Fingers crossed the sun will be out again for the fourth year running. Previous cake sales have been brilliantly supported both by bakers and hungry tummies alike. We are again inviting all residents to bake some Cakes, Buns, Pies etc to sell on the day on behalf of Dromod Development. These can be left at Cox’s Steakhouse on Sat 4th May or before 12pm on the day at the marquee.
The Festival Committee would again appreciate the help from volunteers on the day. This will involve helping to supervise the different field activities, setting up tables, chairs and artwork in the marquee and also marshalling the fun run. We are still very interested to hear from any individuals, groups or organisations who could further add to the success of the day. Please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone on 08799 72439. Fundraising is now in progress and we hope that we will get the same generosity and support as have ion previous years. We look forward to your support and will keep you updated.

Bornacoola’s Senior team travelled to Gortletteragh on Sunday morning last for a championship dress rehearsal against last year’s Leitrim Intermediate champions. The game was the usual tight affair between these two teams but a late goal for the home side ensured they collected both points on a 1-12 to 0-8 scoreline. This weekend, the lads return to Shield action and indeed Gortletteragh are again the opposition as we travel to Cornageeha on Saturday evening for a 7pm throw-in.
In Division 2 Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher were the visitors to Dromod on Saturday evening last in Division 2 of the league. Although Bornacoola outscored the visitors in the 2nd half, a strong first half from the North Leitrim men ensured the journey home felt a little shorter as they departed Dromod with a 2-12 to 1-4 victory. Upcoming fixtures for Bornacoola teams at all levels for the remainder of April and the month of May can be viewed at www.bornacoola.gaa.ie U-8 & U-10 Blitz Our stars of the future are in action next weekend as they play Garadice Gaels at 10.30am on Saturday morning. Best of luck to all involved. U-16 League The U-16 league will get underway on Friday May 3rd when Bornacoola are away to Garadice Gaels at 6.30pm.
Well done to all involved with the running of a hugely successful Fashion Show in Lough Rynn on Friday night last. In particular we’d like to extend our thanks to the various fashion houses that participated – Bonnie B, Kabuki, Kenny’s of Longford, Image, Jack & Jones (Athlone Town Centre), Wallis, Alice - Anne, Prima Donna, Accessories by Luna and Jennifer Wrynne Creations. Also to all of our models, to Tom Moran and Ronan Nugent for the entertainment, to those who displayed crafts, to the sponsors of the prizes for the raffle and to a very hard working organising committee who put so much work into ensuring it was a great night. Táimíd go léir an bhuíoch daoibh uile as ucht an obair dhílis a ndearna sibh. A particular word of thanks to compere for the night and one of the main organisers, Ann McGuinness for the outstanding job she performed.
The Bornacoola Ladies played their second Division 2 League match of the season on Sunday morning last as they entertained neighbours Annaduff in Dromod. Following a well contested encounter the Annaduff Ladies came out on top on a scoreline of Annaduff 4-12 Bornacoola 6-2. Leading at the break 3-7 to 3-1 the Annaduff ladies pressed home their advantage with a number of third quarter scores but the never say die attitude of the Bornacoola Ladies was repaid in the final quarter as they doubled their half time tally to leave just four points in it at the final whistle. On duty on Sunday were Susan Shanley, Cora McCauley, Shannon Boyle, Roisin Donnelly, Maeve Duffy, Tanya Donnelly, Sarah Duffy, Selina Shanley, Leonie Duffy (1-0), Nadine Hackett (5-0), Kelly Howard (0-2), Fiona Reilly, Seona Cosgrove and Hannah McGlynn.
Annaduff’s second team got their first points of the year with a hard earned home win over Kiltubrid winning by 2-7 to 0-8.After the hammering by Carrigallen this was a good performance. Kiltubrid were the better team in the first half and they deserved to lead by 0-6 to 0-2 at the break with the Annaduff defence in trouble against a fast Kiltubrid forward line. Annaduff upped their game in the second half and crucially got two goals from play anywhere Barry Daly in the 40th minutes and Niall Maxwell in the 55th minute.
In Div 1 Annaduff and Ballinamore drew on a scoreline of 1-8 each in Ballinamore on Sunday. Sean McNabola saved Annaduff with a well taken goal in the 60th minute. Ballinamore had the better of the first half leading at half time by 1-6 to 0-3. Wayne McKeon and Shane McWeeney got the first two points for the home side. Kenny Cox then pointed two frees for Annaduff. Sean Murray, Liam Ferguson and Kevin Connor pointed for Ballinamore. In the 22nd minute Sean Murray got a goal for them. County minor Kenny Cox pointed from a free with Shane McWeeney finishing the first half scoring with a point to leave Ballinamore with a six point lead at the break. Annaduff were much better in the second half despite hitting some very bad wides. David Duignan got the first point of the second half for Ballinamore. Annaduff dug deep and scored the next five points from Dean Gill, Kenny Cox with two, a beauty from Dillon Keane and another from an in form Dean Gill. This left two points between the sides with five minutes remaining. Ballinamore looked to have the points when they got a point in the 57th minute before Sean McNabola’s well taken goal at the end.
We would like to send greetings to some people who celebrate their birthday in recent times: firstly to Rachelle O’Connor, Annaduff who had her birthday on 15th April last next to Leonie Duffy who had her birthday on Wednesday last and finally to my good neighbour Brendan Duignan who celebrates his birthday today (Wednesday). We wish you health and happiness for the future.
