Arva Horse Fair
A Horse Fair will take place in Arva on August 4th next, a first for this town. It should attract much interest. Arva was well-known down the years as a market town so it’s a case of revisiting the past come August next.
Three Arva streets deserted
There are three streets in Arva that used to have business premises like drapers and furniture. Now all that’s long gone and only a couple of outlets remain on a part time basis. The emergence of the one-way street was a very bad move with Pound Street now one way. Who will pull up with their car because the few vacancies for cars are now occupied all the time all day long.
Colmcille raids during Confirmation
The adjoining parish of Colmcille and Aughnacliffe had the experience of raiders last week. They happened when the occupants of those house were in Colmcille Church with children that had been getting Confirmation on the day. They knew when to strike. The Garda Station in Smear closed down this year so these people have no worries about being caught. There was an RTE Prime Time about Colmcille raids on TV just before these incidents happened.
Bingo continues in Ballinamuck on Tuesdays, Moyne on Thursdays, Cloone on Wednesdays, Ballinamore on Tuesdays, Drumreilly Fridays and Carrick-on-Shannon every Sunday night.
Suspicious vehicles around
Despite the Community Text Alert system locally, there are still people prowling around the locality during the week and especially on Saturday mornings. A small white van was spotted and some hours later, the same driver of the white van was seen driving a black Audi car. Probably the number plates are bogus. People are warned to be alert in the Moyne, Gulladoo and Carrigallen area and report immediately. The absence of Garda stations in the locality is a huge loss, thanks to the Government for this.
Rumours are circulating that bus services in this region could be axed or cut back. Anything is possible from now on. Nothing is certain anymore.
