Mobile Phone Collection
Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th of May. There will be a box placed at the back of the church at all masses next weekend for collection of old mobile phones. If 120 phones can be collected, one new heated defibrillator box will be given to the parish free of charge. Please donate, thank you.
2013 Confirmation in Bornacoola
Bishop Colm O’Reilly administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 20 pupils from Fifth and Sixth Classes of Scoil Mhuire NS, Bornacoola, on Wednesday last May 1st in St Michael’s Church at 3pm. All of the Confirmandi had an active role in the ceremony, including the singing of the hymns which was an entirely school choir made up of the First to Sixth Class pupils, under the direction of Patricia McGoldrick, with the music being performed Martina Hackett, and solo pieces performed by at various stages in the ceremony by Rebecca Banet, Tanya Boyle, Anna Cibiniak, Oran Healy, Ellen Woods, Rachel McGarry, Conor Fanning, David Bannon, Lauren McGarry, Jack Gannon, Odhran Grennan, Aine Mulligan, Chloe Donnelly, Sarah Donelan, Nyah Meldrum and Sophie Canning.
The Readings were read by Eva Donlon and Raithna Duffy and the Responsorial Psalm was sung by Tanya Boyle, Anna Cibiniak and Rebecca Banet. Following the administration of the Sacrament the Prayers of the Faithful were read by Mahon Meldrum, Megan Canning, Shane Mallon, James Doyle, Ellie Jones, Aaran Hackett, Riona Cosgrove and Sean McGoldrick. At the Offertory Procession the gifts were carried to the altar by Sean Conboy, Callum Kidd, Christopher Healy, Tanya Boyle, Ciaran McGlynn and Riona Cosgrove. Commentary was read by Anna Cibiniak.
The Sign of Peace was carried to the large congregation by Megan Canning, Aoibhinn Reynolds, Orran McGuinness and Shane Mallon. Following Communion Amy Blake read the Communion Reflection “If you can” by Christy Kenneally and immediately following this in their final active participation Ellie Jones and Rebecca Banet carried flowers to the Altar of Mary to the sound and singing of “Ave Maria”.
A special word of gratitude is extended to the former pupils of Scoil Mhuire NS and currently in First Year in Mohill Community College and Templemichael College, Longford, who served on the occasion, namely Seona Cosgrove, Michelle Hackett, Hannah McGlynn, Shannon Healy, Cora Fearon, Caelan Reynolds and Cian Mallon and indeed to Fr Gerry O’Brien PP who was of great assistance in the lead up to and during the Ceremony. It goes without saying that all were delighted to have Bishop Colm O’Reilly in the parish once again to administer the Sacrament. All in all, it was a memorable occasion for the Confirmandi, their sponsors, families and friends. People with special needs
Cáirde Liatroma is holding a fund raising dance with TR Dallas, Mickey Clerkin and Seán McAloon in the Bush Hotel Carrick-On-Shannon on tomorrow Thursday night 9th May. Start 8pm. We would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of the late Teresa better known as Tess Reynolds, nee Lynch, St. Brigid’s Street, Ballinamore who died at her home on Sunday last. Tess was laid to rest in Oughteragh cemetery, Ballinamore yesterday (Tuesday). May she Rest in Peace.

Sean O’Heslin’s were visitors to Dromod on Saturday evening last for a shield game. I a good lively game Bornacoola came out winners on a final scoreline of Bornacoola 1-13 Sean O’Heslin’s 1-8. Bornacoola were fist to score and led at the quarter way by three points to nil but Sean O’Heslin’s kept rallying and a goal against the run of play left the bors trailing until a well taken penalty by Aiden Reilly was the turning point for them followed by three more great points. Next weekend Bornacoola take on St. Mary’s in Div 2 (Saturday) while old rivals Kiltubrid will provide the opposition in Div 1 on Sunday.
Bornacoola GAA club draw
The April draw in the Bornacoola GAA club draw took place on Sunday night last in the Copper Still, Dromod with music on the night by Ronnie Duignan. Thanks to all who supported. Winners were as follows: €100 Colm Kilrane, €20 Each Ronnie Duignan, Jason Lyons, Tara Comiskey, Anne Conboy, Emer Duignan, and a bottle of wine sponsored by the Copper Still was won by Seamus Duignan.
Bornacoola Youth Club
A word of thanks to everyone who generously supported our recent church gate collection. The members of the youth club will be taking part in Youth Factor in the coming weeks it will take place on May 24th in the Cannon Donohue Hall in Mohill they will be competing against members from other clubs and your support would be greatly appreciated. The junior leaders are in the process of putting the finishing touches to the summer camp they will be running. The camp will start on Wednesday evening, June 26th and will finish on Saturday 29th. There will be lots of fun and games for all members. The camp will be open to all junior and senior club members. More information to follow soon. Club will finish for the summer on the Saturday. There will be another music night soon once a date is confirmed we will notify you.
Annaduff were beaten 1-8 to 1-4 by Gortletteragh in the Shield in Annaduff on Saturday evening. Annaduff led by 1-2 to 0-2 at half time, the goal came in the 26th minute from Kenny Cox. Gortletteragh got their goal in the 40th minute and went on to deservedly win by four points. The teams meet again in the league this weekend.
Coding for kids
We are setting up a free coding for kids class in Ballinamore. Coding is the way you build websites, computer games and Apps. Coding is very useful for kids and adults alike. CoderDojo is the organisation worldwide who want to teach kids to code for free. All the information is here www.coderdojo.com. There are over 50 coderdojos in Ireland today. We need adults and kids to email us to see if we have enough interest. We intend to have one every Saturday for 1 or 2 hours. This is open to all kids the Leitrim/Cavan/Longford/Fermanagh area. We would like to send greetings to some people who celebrate their birthday in recent times: firstly to Kevin Canning, Bornacoola who turned 21 recently, Kevin partied with family and friends in Reynolds’, Rooskey on Saturday week last, next to Mary O’Connor, Dromod and her friend Rene from Carrick who both had their birthdays at the weekend, I cant forget my niece Laura Moran who had her birthday yesterday (Tuesday) and shared it with her favourite uncle, also to Frank Moran of the Weir Lodge, Rooskey who celebrates his birthday today (Wednesday) and of course we cant forget my good friend Philip Reilly who will have his birthday on Friday next. We wish you all health and happiness for the future.
Don’t forget if you have any mobile phones not in use bring them to Cloonturk or Bornacoola Churches this weekend the will help to get a new heated defibrillator box ….Badminton continues every Wednesday Mohill Sports Complex at 8pm….Great turn out for Dromod’s annual May festival and thankfully the rain stayed away….Leitrim got their Connaught Championship off to a great start on Sunday last with a comprehensive win over New York ....Body attack continues every Thursday at Bornacoola Community Centre at 9pm.
