Manor Rangers U14s reach Sligo/Leitrim League Final

Manor Rangers reached the final of the U14 Sligo/Leitrim League on Friday evening last with a semi final win over a Yeats United after extra time and penalties. Yeats took the lead after 10 minutes with a well taken goal but Manor replied when Lee McSharry crossed for Luke Tansey to head home and leave the game level at half time. It was end to end stuff in the second half with Manor having the better chances. Manor broke the deadlock when Adam Connolly picked up the ball inside Yeats half, beat a player and fired in a great shot from 25 yards, which hit the top corner of the net. Credit to Yeats they battled back and were awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box. It was buried in the bottom corner of the Manor net to make it 2 – 2 at full time.

Manor again had the better chances in extra time, but could not break the deadlock. It went to penalties with both teams missing a penalty each. In sudden death Manor ‘keeper Thomas Foley was the hero saving a penalty and then scoring the winner to put Manor through to the final.

Club Chluainín meeting

The next Club Chluainín weekly meeting takes place on Tuesday morning, May 14 in the North Leitrim Glens Centre from 11.15am to 1.15pm. The Club organisers Mae, Kathleen and Mary are looking forward to seeing all members all members in attendance. New members are always welcome; just drop in any Tuesday morning between around 11.15am and see what Club Chluainín is about – and there is no pressure to join. Rural Lift busses will pick-up members as usual for Tuesday’s meeting and members not travelling should call their bus driver. Top class organic food at Origin Market

The second weekly Manor Origin Farmers Market of the month takes place on this Friday, May 10 from 10am to 2pm at the Bee Park Community Centre where it will provide the north Leitrim and Manorhamilton areas with top class organic food and vegetable produce as usual.

The following producers will be in attendance at the Farmers Market on this Friday – Maureen Kelleher, apple juices, cakes, treacle bread organic duck eggs; Shanvaus Apiary honey and honey products; Trevor Irvine, Irish cheese, olives; Enda McCallig, Fresh Fish; French Bread; John Martin, fruit, and vegetables; Mountain Top new and second hand bicycles; Peter Wyatt wood turner and Eoin Collins, plants and seeds.

A new vendor at the Farmers Market is Ciaran MacAodh a Dublin man who has recently moved to reside in Leitrim. Ciaran has organic hot pies and sausage rolls on his stand at the Market. Rossinver’s Eden Plants recently commenced with a stall at the Farmers Market and will continue to do so from now on. Eden Plants was established 30 years ago by Rod Alston as one of Ireland’s first pioneering adventures in organic farming and gardening. All support is greatly appreciated from customers that drop in on any Friday to purchase some of the excellent items that are on sale at Manor’s Origin Farmers Market.

Orpheus Choir Spring Concert

Sligo Orpheus Choir presents its Spring Concert “Amadeus” in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Sligo with the proceeds of the event going to North West Hospice. “Amadeus,” the music of Mozart, who is arguably the greatest composer of them, all, will involve the Sligo Chamber Orchestra, Leader Niamh Crowley, as well as the Korean Soprano Eunjoo Goh with Manorhamilton’s Austin McManus conducting.

Eunjoo Goh has sung major roles from such well known operas as “Carmen,” “Cosi fan tutte,” “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Don Giovanni,” “The Pearl Fishers,” “L’Elisir d’Amore,” “Romeo and Juliet”, “Manon” and “Die Fledermaus”. Formerly the Professor of Music at Mokpo National University, South Korea, Eunjoo now lives in Sligo with her family and is a valued member of Sligo Orpheus Choir. Friday night May 17 at 8pm at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Sligo is the venue for the Sligo Orpheus Spring Choir concert. Alzheimer’s Tea Day in Rossinver

The Thursday Club will again be hosting a Tea Day for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, 9th May at the Ballagh Centre, Rossinver. Dramatic cuts in health services, growing waiting lists and increasing numbers of people being diagnosed with dementia means the Tea Day is critically important. All money raised will help fund local Alzheimer services for families in County Leitrim. Everyone in the area is urged to drop in, have a cup of tea and donate to this very worthy cause.

Fitness for Females

Fitness for Females starting Thursday 9th May, at 7pm, St Clare’s Comprehensive School, Gym. Block of six, €20. This programme is designed for women of all ages regardless of fitness levels and is tailor made to suit your needs. Leitrim’s Youth Factor

Can you sing, dance, play music or act? Would you like to take part in Leitrim’s Youth Factor? Alzheimer’s Tea Day in Manor

Alzheimer’s Tea Day takes place in the Women’s Centre, The Bee Park Centre, Manorhamilton on Thursday, 9th May from 11am onwards. Your support is greatly appreciated. Make it a day to remember, come along and have a cuppa, bring a friend.

Volunteers Needed

The Manorhamilton Meals-on-Wheels community support service in the town area needs more volunteers to help out with this very worthy dinner time scheme that perhaps provides the most important meal of the day for very deserving and appreciative recipients. Men’s Group

The North Leitrim Men’s Group, which is based in the Men’s Centre in the Bee Park Community Centre, offers opportunities to increase men’s personal, social and technical skills, by coming together in a working team within the group’s structure. The Men’s Group aims to improve the quality of life of the large number of single rural men aged 35-65 living in North Leitrim. Irish Chat Group

An Irish conversation group (Ciorcal comhrá) recently been established in Manorhamilton Library and meets weekly on Friday evening at 7pm. Whether you are a fluent Irish speaker or have just the ‘Cúpla Focal,’ this is a friendly and stress-free way of speaking the Irish language and all are welcome to come along on any Friday evening. ICS Volunteer Drivers

The Irish Cancer Society is seeking trustworthy reliable volunteers in the Sligo area who have free weekday time to provide cancer patients with safe, comfortable and confidential transport to and from Sligo General Hospital. Farmers’ CU Service

Manorhamilton and District Credit Union can now receive payments electronically due to its farming members from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Farmers, who would like to avail of this facility, are asked to call to the Manorhamilton office during opening hours, which are on Wednesdays from 11am to 1pm, Thursdays 10am to 1pm and 5.30pm to 7.30pm, and on Fridays from 11am to 1pm and 7.30pm to 9.30pm, or at the Credit Union’s sub-office in the Market House, Blacklion on Thursdays from 3pm to 5pm.

Sympathy Extended

Deepest sympathy is extended on his death to the family of Mickey Mawn, Curraghfore, Manorhamilton. Mickey remains reposing at Our Lady’s Hospital Chapel, Manorhamilton on Saturday evening, May 3 prior to their removal to the Church of the Annunciation, Mullies. His Funeral Mass and Service took place on Saturday morning, May 4 in the Church of the Annunciation followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Annual Lourdes Pilgrimage

The annual Kilmore Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from Monday, May 27 to Saturday, June 1 led by Bishop Leo O’Reilly. New Camogie Club

Camógaiocht na nGleannta Club camogie training for all girls from U10 to U14 takes place on every Tuesday from 6pm to 7 pm at St Clare’s Primary School Astroturf pitch. Leitrim Landscapes Guided Walks

At Friday’s walk guides from Leitrim Landscapes Guided Walks organisation will point out the flora and fauna of interest, local archaeology and the edible plants and herbs around and about and even stage a foraging taster session afterwards. Suitable for the not so fit, the walk will last 1.5 hours and will be at a slow pace. The meeting point for the Walk is the Women’s Centre on this Friday, May 10 from 1pm to 3pm. The normal opening hours for Manorhamilton Library each week are between10am to 2pm and 3pm to 6pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; 10am to 2pm and 3pm to 8pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, and 10am to 2.45pm on Saturday. New Baby Daughter

Congratulations to Colin Murphy, Lurganboy and his wife Christine on the birth of their new baby daughter and first child, Addison in Letterkenny General Hospital recently.

Second Bingo Night

Manorhamilton’s second bingo session of the month will take place in the Bee Park Community Centre on this Wednesday night, May 8 at 9pm. A good night’s entertainment is promised by the organisers.
