Celebrate Easter at Dawn in Killenummery
The Parish of Killenummery and Killery invites you to celebrate Easter with a Dawn Mass at Creevelea Abbey. Holy Mass will be celebrated at Creevela Abbey at 6am on Easter Sunday morning.
It will be the first time that a Dawn Mass has been celebrated at the Abbey in recent memory. Creevelea Abbey was a Francisan house founded in 1508 and in use until 1650. It was the last Franciscan Friary consecrated in Ireland before the dissolution of the monasteries in the seventeenth century. It is said that St. Patrick visited Dromahair and built a church on the site of Creevelea Abbey which is marked by a plaque.
The Parish of Killenummery and Killery is the island parish of the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnois. Situated in counties Leitirm and Sligo, the parish is approxmiately two miles form the village of Dromhair.
There are three churches in the parish: St. Mary’s Parish Church, Killenummery (Ballingar), St. Theresa’s Ballintogher and St. Michael’s Killavoggy. Fr. Vincent Connaughton has been the parish priest since 2008.
