St Joseph’s Collection

The Annual Church Gate Collection held recently in aid of St Joseph’s Aughavas NS raised €529.32 for the school. The support of the parish is greatly appreciated.

Aughavas/Cloone Active Age

Our next meeting will take place in Cloone Community Centre tomorrow night, Thursday 21 March at 8.30pm to discuss our proposed trip to Killarney and other relevant matters. A full attendance is requested.

Aughavas GAA Table Quiz

Aughavas GAA are holding a Table Quiz on Good Friday 29 March 2013, at 8.30pm in Aughavas Community Centre. Proceeds are in aid of Cóiste na nÓg. Adults table of 4 - €40 and children’s table of 4 - €20. Separate questions and prizes for adults and children. Your support would be appreciated.

Parent & Toddler

A parent and toddler group has started in Aughavas Community Centre and is held every Thursday morning between 10am-12pm, with Mama Birinda. Parents are invited to bring their toddlers where they can play, while parents can have tea or coffee and a chat. Self Defence Classes

Increase your fitness and ability to react to defend yourself with Self Defence classes which take place in Aughavas Community Centre, every Tuesday evening between 7-8pm. For further information contact Séan 087 1725573.

The Sky at Night

If you are interested in astronomy or just simply fascinated by the night sky then Ballinamore Library is where you need to be next Tuesday night, 26 March at 8pm when Christophe Lombardi with Ben Quinn will give a talk on the sky at night. This March there is a comet, galaxies and a star cluster for us to enjoy in the night sky so come along and learn more about these astronomical beauties. As Patrick Moore said “Astronomy’s a fascinating subject. You look up….you can’t help getting interested and it’s there” Remember: Ballinamore Library: Tuesday 26 March at 8pm and ADMISSION IS FREE.

Solo Photographic Exhibition

The “Solo Photographic Exhibition” by Dromod Photographer Ailbhe McGill continues to run in Ballinamore Library. The exhibition will run until 12 April during library opening hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am-1.30pm and 2.30-5.30pm. Tuesday to Thursday 10am-1.30pm and 2.30-8.00pm, Saturday 10am-1.30pm and 2.30-5.00pm. Admission Free.

Easter in Ballinamore Library

Calling all children: Borrow a book. Your name goes in the hat and a draw for an Easter egg will take place on Thursday 28 March at 5pm.

Community Games

Swimming: Anyone in the Aughavas/Carrigallen area interested in taking part in Community Games Swimming (U16) can contact Mary on 086 3695672. Closing date for entries is Friday 22 March 2013. Handwriting Competition Results: Results of U10 County Leitrim Community Games Handwriting Competition which was held in Carrick-on-Shannon recently. Congratulations to the following: Girls: 1st; Niamh O’Brien, Rossan, 2nd; Rachel McIntyre, Aughavas, 3rd; Dervla McManus, Mohill. Boys: 1st; Brian Donohoe, Mohill, 2nd; Cathal McNamara, Aughavas, 3rd; Enda Lowe, Drumshanbo. The 1st Prize winners go forward to represent Leitrim in the All Ireland U10 Handwriting Competition which takes place in Athlone on 25th May 2013. We wish Niamh O’Brien, Rossan and Brian Donohoe, Mohill the best of luck.

Cloone Homecoming Festival and Schools Reunion

We are staging a “Cloone’s got talent” show in McKeon’s on Easter Sunday, 31 March. If you are contemplating a career in show business, no matter what age, this is your chance to impress. All acts welcome; singing ,solo and groups, Irish dancing, joke-telling,story telling, and instrumental music, prizes galore. Come along and enjoy the craic.

Gardening & Art Classes

There will be a set of 5 Gardening classes starting tonight, Wednesday 20 March 2013 from 7.30-9.30pm in Fenagh Visitor Centre. Also Art classes (oil painting) with Noreen Gaffney will also commence sometime in March/April (details not yet finalised) - please call 071 9645590 to register your name and for further info. Classes will go ahead if sufficient numbers.


STOP suicide is holding a Bowling tournament in Kidzkingdom & bowling Centre, Carrick-on-Shannon. We are looking for teams. teams of 4 are €50 prizes are 1st €250 2nd €100. Please support this worthy cause, for further information contact 071 9621605.

Millennium Choir Concert

You are invited to attend this annual treat in St Patrick’s Church, Mohill tomorrow night, 21 March at 8.00pm. It features the Magnificent Millennium Choir and Orchestra led by Fintan Farrelly, Local Soloists, and St. Manchan’s Children’s Choir. Tickets at €12 and €10 concession are for sale in Baxter’s Supermarket or Paul’s. Patrons can also pay on the night. For those who can’t attend at the Mohill venue, there will be a repeat performance in St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon the following night Friday 22 March. You just can’t afford to miss it.

The North-West Simon Community

The North-West Simon Community will be holding their annual Church Gate Collection at Cloone and Aughavas next weekend 23 and 24 April 2013. Your support would be appreciated.

Anxiety Support Group

The Mohill Family Support Centre is looking at the possibility of starting a support group to help people who suffer from anxiety. If you suffer from anxiety and would like to overcome this problem please contact us at 071 9631253 and speak to our co-ordinator Tina McLoughlin.
