Message from Trocaire
Donations form individual members of the clergy and the religious orders to Trocaire amounted to almost €1 million in 2012. Members of the clergy donated €765,866 of their own personal income to Trocaire last year while the religious orders made donations amounting to €150,977. “What these figures show is that members of the clergy lead by example when it comes to supporting vital overseas”, Justin Kilcullen, Executive Director of Trocaire said. “As well as faciliating collections at churches all over Ireland, priests also donate a significant proportion of their own money to help support communities across Africa, Asia and Latin America. This support is absolutely vital in our quest for a just world. As we begin a New Year, Trocaire would like to thank parishes across the country for their ongoing support which is changing the lives of the people they work with”. “If you can’t feed a hundred people, just feed one”.
Margaret Quinn (Reynolds)
There was deep regret on hearing of the death of Margaret Quinn, Boeshill, Mohill who died at home in the loving care of her family. She was a lady of deep faith who was a very devoted wife, sister, auntie and most caring neighbour. Sadly she was predeceased by her husband many years ago. RIP. Since coming to Mohill twenty-five years ago, she was an active member of the community who valued her friendship. She died as she lived with dignity. Margaret was a member of the Mohill Legion of Mary where she was held in the highest esteem. She was a dedicated worker and an inspiration to us all.
Her funeral Mass in St. Patrick’s Church on Saturday last February 2nd 2013 was largely attended by family, neighbours and friends after which her burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. Our sympathies are with her nephews, nieces, cousins and all who mourn Margaret at this sad time. “To live on in the hearts of those who love you is not to die”. May her dear soul Rest in Peace.

Scor na Nog
Mohill was well represented at this year’s Scor na Nog. Our young figure dancers were a joy to see. They performed beautifully but lost out in the end with very little points separating the teams. Thanks to all who supported the girls over the last few months. J’s Hotel and Fitzpatrick’s who made their premises free of charge for rehearsals. Eileen Abbot and Mary Kennedy for arranging the costumes, the Ladies Club for their donations but especially Roisin Kennedy and the girls who made the club proud. Congrats to Grace O’Reilly from Ballinamore who was a winner in the recitation competition. Hard luck to Bornacoola’s Question Time team of Robert Beirne, Brian Duffy and Sean Muldowney who lost out by two points in the Connaught finals in Castlebar.

Eileen Kelly (Cullen)
On February 2nd 2013, Mohill’s oldest and most respected lady, Eileen Kelly died in the tender loving care of her family in her home at ‘St. Patrick’s’ Upper Main Street, Mohill aged 104. Her death represents the departure of a great generation whom we all looked up to and admired. She was predeceased by her husband John and daughter Martha. RIP.
Eileen was a lady of deep faith, a most loving wife, mother, granny, auntie and loyal friend. Remembering back the years, she was an active member of the community, a brilliant tennis plaer, a member of Mohill Choir, you name it. She was always at home baking delicious cookies. We shall all miss that lovely smile and her hospitality.
Her removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Mohill on Sunday was representative of all sections of the community who came from the four corners of Ireland to pay their final respects. Her concelebrated Mass on Monday was a celebration of Eileen’s long and fruitful life and the beautiful singing by her granddaughter Edel Palmer together with Mohill Choir added to the solemnity of this sad occasion. The readings were by her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, not forgetting her grandson John who took us on a trip Down Memory Lane.
Our sympathies are with her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and all who mourn her at this sad time. “She is gone no further from us than to God”. Go raibh leaba aici i measc na naomh. May her gentle soul Rest in Peace.
