Owing to the very cold weather that had been with us during February and March, it’s going to be a late spring this year and animal fodder is getting scarce in places as well. It will take a number of weeks before cattle are put out of sheds to grass which will be late but a mild week or two can do a lot when it does come.
Turf cutting shortly
The turf machines are geared up for the bogs around North Longford and work will begin in the next couple of weeks. With the high price of oil, more and more people are turning to solid fuel once again because it’s much cheaper. But the whole lot depends on the weather. Who knows what’s in store weatherwise for the next three months?
Ballinamuck Bingo every Tuesday night and also Moyne Bingo on Thursday nights at 9pm sharp. Your support is needed to help keep the two centres going right now or they could close down. There is Bingo now every Thursday night in Ballinamore at nine o’clock with great prizes to be won. Also in Drumreilly Centre every Friday night. Good prizes to be won weekly.
Arva Church of Ireland
A new roof is presently being put on the Church of Ireland in Arva. It’s been a long time since any repairs were done and when finished it will greatly improve the look at the historic church at Tycusker.
Support local outlets
Over the last number of years people have been lured away to shop and have their functions in bigger towns because it may be a bit cheaper but in the long run it’s not. There are plently of places locally like hotels that can cater for weddings and other functions. Some people tend to not avail of these places for some reason or other. If these local places are not used by locals at the end of the day, they could close down and leave people out of a job. There is no point in shouting about the run-down of rural Ireland when some don’t support the things that are here at the moment.
