Clinical Langan inspires Drumkeerin victory

A master-class in scoring from the impressive Jamie Langan saw Drumkeerin complete the Under 16 15-a-side League and Championship double when their all-round strength proved too much for Drumreilly in last Saturday's entertaining Championship Final in Fenagh.

U-16 15-A-SIDE CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

DRUMKEERIN 3-12

DRUMREILLY 0-8

At halftime, you'd have got long odds on Drumkeerin enjoying such a comprehensive victory as only a point separated the sides and that gap was soon wiped out with Stephen Gilheany's first minute leveller. But from then on, it was an exhibition in team-work from Drumkeerin and finishing from Langan who ended up with a tally of 3-8.

Yet it was far from a one-man show for Drumkeerin – Langan's finishing was impressive to say the least and his second goal was a thunderous effort. But the full-forward benefited greatly from a generous out-field supply and fine build-up play from a great supporting cast.

Cathal McCauley and Ciaran Hickey's great running with the ball provided most of the bullets for Langan to fire while James Gallagher and Dean Brolly dominated the middle of the field in the second half. In defence, the impressive Declan Daly led a solid unit where Paul Hazlette and Felim McHugh stood out.

Yet Drumreilly were well in this game up to Drumkeerin's second goal but they couldn't match the all-round strength of the north Leitrim men. Conor Gaffney displayed great intelligent on the ball while Gary & Mark Plunkett look like great prospects for the future.
