Drumkeerin triumph after dramatic replay

Drumkeerin claimed a dramatic victory over Aughnasheelin in last Sunday's Cara Pharmacy, Junior B Championship Final in Drumshanbo but even seven minutes into injury time at the end of the game it was still unclear who would emerge victorious.

CARA PHARMACY, BALLINAMORE, LADIES JUNIOR B FINAL REPLAY

DRUMKEERIN 1-12

AUGHNASHEELIN 3-5

The dramatic nature of the game meant that with the last kick of the game, Aughnasheelin had a chance to claim victory or at the very least claim a draw but Drumkeerin goalkeeper Kate Byrne made a magnificent save to deny Louise Gallagher. That missed opportunity signalled the end of what had been a very evenly matched game in which both sides enjoyed periods of dominance.

After getting of to a slow start in the drawn game, Aughnasheelin would have been anxious to avoid a similar scenario in the replay and they got out of the blocks very quickly with two goals in the opening four minutes.

Despite their slow start, the Drumkeerin ladies remained focused on the task at hand and arguably had the better of the remainder of the half with Shannon O'Grady in particularly good form helping her side to a two point interval lead.

The second half was a more tense affair as both sides enjoyed periods of dominance, but ultimately it was the Drumkeerin captain who displayed the most composure in Shane McGettigan Park as she scored an excellent point six minutes into injury time to secure the narrowest of victories for her side.
