Forde strikes late to snatch victory

Michael Forde was Drumkeerin's super-sub when he grabbed a goal in the last two minutes of normal time of last Sunday's Masonite Division 2 clash with Annaduff to snatch a much needed victory.

After a very entertaining match, Drumkeerin can consider themselves fortunate to win this game as with two minutes of normal time left Annaduff led by 3-3 to 1-7, but Forde got a goal to grab the lead.

The smash and grab raid was completely and two minutes later Stephen Gilhooley added a point to give the home side a two point winning margin and a vital victory in a very competitive and close Division Two.

A win for Annaduff would have seen them jump up the table but they now lie second bottom, a position only made secure after St. Mary’s were also the victim of a late smash & grab raid on Sunday against Aughavas.

For Drumkeerin, they stand four points behind neighbours Dromahair in the table but close to both Aughavas and Carrigallen. However, with only four games to go, they cannot afford to lose any more points.

Drumkeerin started the match with points from Daragh Flynn and Eddie McTiernan (free) but the lead was wiped out when the first of Annaduff's three goals came on six minutes from Kenny Bosquette, after an assist from Joe Cox.

Colm Clarke and Gerard Reynolds exchanged points before McTiernan levelled the match with a free on 20 minutes. Veteran Richard McTiernan gave the home side the lead with a point two minutes later but the game turned on 26 minutes when referee Seamus Mulhern awarded Annaduff a penalty for a foul on Joe Cox and Michael Rowley made no mistake from the spot kick.

Francis Davitt finished the first half scoring with a point to leave Annaduff leading at the break by 2-1 to 0-6.

Drumkeerin looked as if they were right back in it when James McPartland got a goal for Drumkeerin on 34 minutes but after an 11 minute spell without a score, Annaduff struck for their third goal from Joe Cox to regain the lead.

After 48 minutes, county panelist Colm Clarke levelled the match with a point for the home side but a point apiece from John Faughnan and Kenny Bosquette seemed to suggest it would be Annaduff’s day.

But with two minutes of normal time remaining, Forde struck for his crucial goal with Gilhooley following up with a point to snatch the win.
