Frustrated Carlow manager feels “the better team lost”

Having seen his side lose by two points Carlow manager Luke Dempsey struggled to hide his frustration when talking to the press after last Sunday’s match in Dr Cullen Park. Although he was pleased with the effort put in by his players he was left ruing a series of missed chances that ultimately ensured his side’s first match of the Allianz National Football League Division 4 proved to be a losing one.

Luke was proud of the effort shown by his players but accepted their wastefulness in front of the posts ultimately ensured Leitrim would not be overtaken in the closing stages.

“I‘m delighted with the performance of the players given that we were three points down on two occasions. I thought it was one of those days where the better team lost in my opinion but the fact of the matter is, you have to take your chances.

“I don’t know how many wides we kicked but it was certainly too many. Near the end everybody could see ourselves getting the equaliser, but it didn’t happen. Leitrim’s effort was extremely noble to say the least and it shows you what it meant to them to come down here and it shows the competitive nature of Division 4. They lost last Sunday and if they lost today they were gone out of the league. We’re in the same position as Leitrim now. We’ve lost one, it was always going to be close and we have to get our act together for the next few matches starting with London on March 4.”
