Leitrim’s supporters are anxiously waiting on news of injured Leitrim stars Wayne McKeon, Shane Moran and Daniel Lowe with joint manager Brian Breen hopeful that his fellow Ballinamore Sean O’Heslin’s clubmen and St. Mary’s Lowe will be able to line out against Wicklow.

Both Ballinamore players retired injured against Mayo, McKeon lasting just eight minutes after an early clash saw him suffer a badly injured leg while Moran sustained a dead leg in a heavy collision in the first half in Castlebar and was forced from the game at halftime.

It was the second injury for McKeon who suffered broken fingers against London while Lowe missed the Mayo game after sustaining an injury in training after the clash with London.

Neither Moran or McKeon played for Ballinamore in their loss to great rivals and neighbours Aughawillan last weekend but it is believed that both will resume light training during this week.

But Breen remains hopeful that both will be able to play some part against Wicklow - “We’re hoping that Wayne and Shane should be okay as well as Daniel Lowe. Wayne is a bigger worry as Shane suffered a dead leg but we’d like to think that both Shane and Wayne could be available.

“We have been in contact with both of the lads and both are hoping to resume jogging this week, Shane didn’t play for Ballinamore last weekend as a precaution.”

The impact of the loss of Moran, McKeon and Lowe to Leitrim’s game-play in McHale Park can’t be underestimated according to Breen - “The lads were huge losses against Mayo. You can’t afford to lose a player of Wayne’s calibre against Mayo and that is a fact of life.

“We needed everything to go our way in Castlebar if we were going to pull off a result but when you lose three players like that, the result is only going to go one way.”
