McCrann does a "Curran" on Drumkeerin

Masonite Division One B

Cloone 0-11, Drumkeerin 1-7

Cloone keeper Dermot McCrann did a “Shane Curran” on Drumkeerin last Saturday evening when he converted a 45 metre free to win this Masonite Senior League encounter.

With Brian Mulvey, Damien O'Donnell and Donal Brennan in deadly form, Cloone just pipped the high flying Drumkeerin men with McCrann's late point sealing a narrow but well deserved win.

Cloone's Brian Mulvey opened the scoring but the north Leitrim men hit back with Tony Cullen, Michael Foley & John Cullen scoring points. Another Foley free extended the Drumkeerin lead although Dermot McCrann made a wonderful point blank save to deny John Cullen.

That save inspired Cloone and Mulvey swapped point with Cullen before he and sub Gavin McGovern added late points, leading Drumkeerin 0-6 to 0-4 in front at the break.

The second half saw Cloone dominate early proceedings with Brian Mulvey and two Donal Brennan frees, for fouls on Damien O'Donnell, edging his side in front.

However, a Drumkeerin shot hit the crossbar and Daniel McSharry punched the ball to the Cloone net to regain the lead. O'Donnell and Brennan added points to level the match but Drumkeerin fought back again with points from Foley.

But Cloone were not going to be denied - Seamus Maguire levelled the scores before McCrann hit a magnificent free from out on the wing just into injury time to seal the win.
