Mary Keenan wins Hall Fame award

Carrick-on-Shannon’s Mary Keenan has been named the Leitrim Sports Partnership Hall of Fame award winner for exceptional services to sport as the nominees for this year’s Leitrim Sports Star awards have been revealed.

For the past number of weeks the people of Leitrim have been submitting nominations for the Leitrim Sports Star Awards in 10 different categories and the winner in each category will be announced at the “Leitrim Sports Star Awards” which will take place on Saturday, December 1, in the Landmark Hotel. The standard was so high that in some categories, it was only possible to shortlist down to four.

Mary Keenan has become synonmous with Community Games in Leitrim, having literally spent a lifetime keeping the organisaton in Carrick-on-Shannon and throughout the county, working as an Area, County and National official down through the years. The following are the shortlisted nominees for the awards:

Sports Individual Junior

Dearbhaile Beirne Mohill & District AC; Alice Kelly Carrick Rowing Club; Tom McCabe Carrick Rowing Club; Donal Wrynn Fenagh Handball.

Volunteer of the Year

Paddy Connaughton Sean O’Heslin’s GAA; Mary Coyle Glencar/Manor GAA; Gerry Gilroy Leitrim Sub-Aqua Club.

Sports Individual Senior

Colin Griffin Ballinamore AC; Cathal McCrann Gortletteragh & Leitrim GAA; Laura Reynolds Mohill & Distrtict AC

The winner of the Leitrim Sports Person of the Year Award has been chosen from one of the above shortlisted nominees. Congratulations to each and every one on being nominated for a Leitrim Sports Star Award, your dedication and hard work in sport is being recognised.
