Irish winger Tommy Bowe is best known for terrorising defences whenever he takes to the field but last Saturday afternoon several hundred people were afforded an opportunity to see a different side of the friendly giant when he stopped in Gerard Anthony Menswear, Carrick-on-Shannon to sign autographs and pose for pictures.

Tommy was in Carrick to promote the ‘Lloyd and Price’ Tommy Bowe shoe collection and the visit to Carrick-on-Shannon proved to be a fruitful one as fans of all ages came out to catch a glinmpse of their hero.

Talking to the Leitrim Observer after he spent over an hour signing autographs and posing for pictures Tommy explained, “I am here with the Lloyd and Pryce shoe brand, The Tommy Bowe collection. We’re in the autumn/winter collection. It’s my first year involved with them and we like to do a visit around some of the shops that are selling them throughout Ireland. We were in Sligo this morning, we’re in Carrick-on-Shannon now, we’re going to be in Cavan, Monaghan and Castleblayney later. It’s nice to meet people around the area, we’re trying to get people to try the shoes and maybe sell a few.”

Speaking about the reaction that greeted him in Carrick Tommy was grateful that so many turned out saying, “It’s been great, it’s nice to meet the supporters, there are a lot of Irish supporters here. There were Ireland jersies everywhere and even the odd Ospreys jersey and that’s nice to see.”

Turning his attention to matters rugby and the Six Nations tournament which sees Ireland begin their campaign on February 5 against Wales Tommy said, “It’s going to be a massive competition after the excitement and disappointment of the world cup. It’s a great competition to go in to with Wales at home in our first match, that’s one to really look forward to.”
