The closing ceremony of Leitrim's commemoration of 1916 took place in St George's Church Carrick-on-Shannon  today, Friday, November 18.

The event took a look back over the huge number of events held in the county to commemorate the many links Leitrim has to 1916. Local communities and groups were recognised for their efforts in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising.

Descendants of Sean MacDiarmada, Thomas Clarke, Paul Galligan, Rafferty and Reid families were presented medals and a number of speakers spoke about the successful year in the county.

This video created for Leitrim Tourism gives a great insight and glimpse over the huge amount of important dates in the local diary this year and the large number of local people who took part in what has been termed a "special" year for the county.

More pictures and details of the closing ceremony will be in the Leitrim Observer next Wednesday.
