Carrick Film Society is starting its Spring 2013 season with the Untouchables.

Carrick Film Society is starting its Spring 2013 season of World Cinema on Thursday, January 31, in Carrick Cineplex.

The season kicks off with ‘Untouchable’ - a 2011 French film directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Tolendano. This true story, France’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Oscars, became a runaway success when first released.

It is also the highest-grossing French film of all time.

The film centres around the quadriplegic French aristocrat Philippe Pozzo di Borgo, former director of the Pommery champagne house and his Senegalese ex-con carer Driss. Slowly but surely, the two become unlikely friends. Driss introduces Philippe to marijuana, massage and Earth, Wind and Fire; Philippe, in turn, introduces art, classical music and paragliding.

The result is a film, with its irreverent and humorous take on disability, which is corny, charming and uplifting.

For once, the hype is justified.

All films are shown at Carrick Cineplex on Thursdays at 8.30pm.

Everyone is very welcome.
