Beezneez, Comhaltas and Breffni Players come together to perform The Harper's Wake.

As The All Ireland Fleadh approaches, Beezneez, Comhaltas and Breffni Players have come together to provide a rousing night of musical theatre with John McDwyer’s specially commissioned new work, The Harper’s Wake on Monday, 11 and Tuesday, 12 August.

This is a wonderful opportunity for three groups, all involved at different levels in the Arts, to come together and showcase local talent.

Beezneez have provided the script, direction and actors (Mary Blake, Gerry Farrell and Hubert McMorrow); Comhaltas, the musicians and dancer (Hannah Farrell, Claire and Brendan Bohan, Brian Mostyn, Fiachra Guihan and Michael O’Rourke) and Breffni Players the set and lighting design (Angus Dunne and Jim Gorman).

When Beezneez Theatre Company presented John McDwyer’s specially commissioned new work, The Harper’s Wake, at the 2013 Connacht Fleadh, it received a rapturous reception from packed houses.

It is particularly welcome to see young local musicians get a stage for their work in the week leading up to the All Ireland Fleadh Ceoil in Sligo.

The Harper’s Wake performs in The Model, Sligo on August 14 at 3pm.

Author and director, John McDwyer describes the play as a simple piece of linking dialogue as the main concentration of the piece lies in the beautiful traditional music and dancing.

The Harper’s Wake happens when The Harper, Mark, dies suddenly and the brothers Robert and Stephen Callaghan arrive to comfort the widow, Hannah and show how a proper wake should be celebrated. This could well be the most enjoyable wake of all time. Directed by the author and with the finest of traditional musicians and dancers, The Harper’s Wake is an unmissable cornucopia of comedy and wonderful music and dancing.

The Harper’s Wake plays for two nights only and tickets should be booked immediately. When they’re gone, they’re gone! Booking on (071) 9650828 or www.thedock.ie
